With so many plain vanilla hatches coming up, we need a hot premium hatch. The manufacturers might make some money even if the sales are less. Hope we dont get disappointed.

Define your "hot premium hatch"? The i20 1.4 (O) is in league of my "hot premium hatch".

All new manufacturers or new to hatch segment will not invest in an expensive, premium and loaded hatch. They are putting their money and want returns in terms of volumes and market share. And that's exactly what Chevy, Ford, VW and Nissan are doing by bringing out Beat, Figo, Polo and Micra.

Hyundai already had an established base with i10 and then secured the semi-premium hatch position with i20 1.2. Hence it could think of offering a 8 lacs premium hatch (i20 1.4). But the sales of this model do not provide business sense; its more for novelty and branding.

I think the best co. for which it makes sense to bring in a ultra-premium hatch is Maruti Suzuki. Presently, they end their hatch offering at Swift (~at 6 lacs). Makes sense to bring a new hatch at 7-8 lacs with all goodies and upmarket interiors.

But actually this opportunity is being seized by Ford (new Fiesta hatch).

The new Suzuki Swift (the bigger better Swift) will be a good bet in the Indian market - with a 1.4L K-series (?) engine at a price starting from Rs 5 - 5.5 Lakh. Or Suzuki SX4 hatch (seen in international markets) with the same 1.4L engine at a price of 5.5 - 6L will also be good.

Maruti has a bad track record selling cars which cost 6L+

This may not really interest the Maruti strategy as well. If Maruti was really serious about this price band, the SX4 DDiS would have been on road here by now.

I spotted this hatch today on the Pallikaranai-Velachery road. It looked like the same blue color one posted earlier in this thread.

+ 1.

I spotted the same car at Velachery- Vijayanagar road, probably around 12- 12.30 AM. Looked striking in blue! Will be a looker with proper alloys IMO!

According to the website the new Fiesta will get the 1.6L engine with 120bhp and will be launched in India sometime by mid 2011.

Yep. Saw the details on msn too. Looks like a cool vehicle with pushbutton start etc.

Heard at one of the local dealerships that Toyota Etios hatch would be launched around the same time (mid 2011), followed by the Toyotal Etios Sedan a few months later.

Would look forward to replacing my 2006 Fiesta with the new Fiesta though.

Mustang can you confirm if there are any recent changes in the launch timelines of Fiesta hatch back and sedan version.

The last update we had was Hatch back at Q2 2011 and Sedan post 2011..

Are any changes in the timelines.

Another question:

Is it confirmed that we wont be getting 1.6 hatch? by next year?
Is it going to be a 1.2/1.4 premium hatch with no changes to engine specs?

It is confirmed that we WILL be getting the fiesta hatch next year.

Well I cant tell you confirmed about what engine options will be launched as of now but the ones doing the testing were the 1.6 Ti-VCT petrol & the 1.6 TDCi diesel. I however highly doubt that the 1.6 TDCi will be making its way into India.

I fail to understand why Ford have been hesitant with the 1.6 TDCi. It should have found its way into the current Fiesta, but Ford have held back for some reason. The new Fiesta sedan will be up against competition like the VW Polo sedan, which is said to have a torquey 1.6 diesel. About time Ford India give us a 1.6 TDCi New Fiesta S..

If we introduce it then obviously the mileage will be much less than the competition ie the lineas, the dzires, etc. etc.

This will offset customers, i think this is the only reason.

Would people buy the new fiesta sedan at honda city's price? I think i am going to start a new thread on this in june & then pass it on to the company bosses, anonymously ofcourse.

Are the Ikon/Fiesta/New Fiesta models going to sold along side each other? If the current Fiesta moves into Ikon price territory, then there is enough room for Ford to price the new Fiesta sedan below the competition.
