Hey guys,

Latest news on Etios.

Looks like the Etios trial production starts next month.

Few points:
1. 2 rounds of trial production - 1 in September and next one in Oct.
2. trial production cars will not be allotted - its just for testing
3. Only Petrol variants to hit the market initially -- Toyota claims no Diesel under testing also as of now !
4. 1.2L engine for hatchback and 1.5L engine for Sedan.
5. Looks like actual production will start in December [might make some batches of cars before the allocation starts - to counter the initial demand]

^^^ But the diesel should be available. The 1.4D engine is already working on the Altis. After all, its the diesel which actually supports to sales count in B/B+ segment (for majority of cars).

Knowing Toyota. The diesel might not come right away. First the sedan with the 1.5 motor may be with VVTi will be launched and the hatch with 1.2 motor with VVTi will be launched.

They would consolidate with the numbers, make sufficient room for upping the production and then introduce the diesel variant.

May be it will give Toyota time to open more dealerships and service centers to cater to the volume. The diesel will definitely come but may not be launched before a year after the commercial sales of Etios at the least.

I would be more than happy if Toyota proved my thought process wrong

According to the salesman who I spoke to during my test-drive said that the Etios should be launched end-2010 or early 2011. But personally, I'm pretty dissapointed with the Etios. Looks just like a Logan. :(

I hope Toyota takes the fight to the i20 with the hatchback and the Manza / Dzire with the sedan. Of course, that means being in the same price range as the aforementioned cars, with a like for like feature set. One hopes that Toyota isnt foolish to go behind the Jazz/Vento/City - that would surely spell disaster with the way the cars look!

Today a call center guy called me representing Toyota Etios which is to be launched in 2011 beginning.
He asked usual survey questions like which car i have,my hobbies(?),if am planning to buy a car...
He was clueless when i asked about the engines of Etios.
To the query of car buying i asked in return when the Avanza is to be launched

He hung up saying that i will be kept updated.
I think Toyota should be aiming at the Swift with the hatch and the Manza with the sedan, instead of gunning for the i20, City crowd.

I received an sms asking me to participate in the Toyota Etios online contest before 10th September.
They just gathered some data and said that I will be kept updated about the launch.

Seems that Etios is gearing up a PR stunt. I for one found the PR stunt by VW for the Vento very impressive and very fresh "The one in CP"

In all likely hood Etios sedan will be below 4.4m and will be in a similar category as a new face lifted verna. Hopefully a diesel option is also there at launch and that will make this car specially tasty.

I found the diesel in Innova quite nice to drive in city traffic and hopefully this should have something similar.

^^ I find the Sedan version as bad looking and dated as the Mahindra Logan. From rear and certain angles it looks strikingly similar to the Logan.

Man this is one ugly duckling! But given the Toyota image in India, if Qualis could sell, this will surely out do the Qualis by a large margin!!! Its all about the bang for the buck in the long run and Toyota more than measures up.

If the pix posted by sidindica is what the Etios hatch and sedan are going to look like then people will buy it just for Toyota badge only and nothing else. The above pix look like that of a late 80s early 90s East European cars. Ughh... indeed. Qualifies for one of the ugliest cars around.
