+ 1 to rlvl.

1st "Right Curve/Hairpin Ahead" is advisory but "No Uturn" is manadatory and hence, to be obeyed/followed.

Re: Traffic rules and signs

Reviving an old thread to look for weird and wacky traffic signs and markings. Here are a couple:

1. A Stop sign on the main carriageway, in conjunction with a proper traffic light signal.
Traffic rules and signs-stopsign.jpg

Why this is weird/wacky:
Quote:
Junctions without traffic lights or roundabouts are controlled by stop signs on minor roads and by white, yellow and black priority diamond signs on the major road. In [some countries], stop signs are restricted to situations wherein coming to a dead stop is actually necessary because of severely limited sight lines. At the vast majority of minor intersections in these countries Give Way signs and/or equivalent road markings are used. Finally, at the busier crossing streets, Give Way signs may be replaced by (mini) roundabouts, which also work on the give way (rather than stop) principle.
From Wikipedia
2. Lane markings without adequate width. Unbroken lane marking.
Traffic rules and signs-lanemarking.jpg

Why this is weird/wacky:
The centre lane is not wide enough to accommodate a 4-wheeler, which is the minimum width requirement of a lane, unless specifically meant for 2-wheelers or bicycles. The left lane has an unbroken line, which essentially disallows traffic from crossing it. This left lane is designated in Delhi as the bus lane, but the lane is not even wide enough to accommodate a bus all along its length.

Re: Traffic rules and signs

Mods: Dont know if this is the correct thread to post this, if required move to relevant thread.

Was amused to read this news. Portable barricades with LED blinkers are being provided for the traffic cops in the city of Coimbatore. The logic is this will help reduce the accidents. Never knew that the barricades were a source of accidents. The barricade comes with set of wheels to move if required & a shelter to house cops in case of rain or sun. The LED blinkers can be operations for full 48 hrs once charged and have a solar panel as power source.

Re: Traffic rules and signs

Folks, reviving an old thread. Was confused as to post it here or on the quirky signs thread but thought of putting it here. Actually these signs are not funny/quirky by any means. They provide useful tips/news to the road users in a jovial manner. So here it goes.

1. Warning for all the romantic drivers on road.

2. For all the blood donors!

Usually it is a sign for uneven roads but not sure if this is a bad execution!

Or I could be wrong!

Thank you. At few places I have seen similar signage when there are uneven roads in a short span of length and hence was wondering if this is a bad paint job. Your source confirms that the sign indeed refers to built up area.

Re: Traffic rules and signs

Bumping up an inactive thread
The below signs and the corresponding meanings are taken from Telangana RTO website. After the symbols, 4 columns are 4 options, and correct option is given in the last column.

There are some comments given by me for all the signs. Would be nice if anyone can chip in their own comments.

Re: Traffic rules and signs

This is the road sign which is doing the rounds on Twitter. This sign is placed near Hopefarm junction in Bangalore.Commuters were confused after seeing is signboard and resorted to social media asking what to interpret.Whitefield Traffic police responded saying it’s a cautionary signboard which tells about a possible blind person on the road.

One of the most idiotic Traffic Sign I have ever seen in India - did'nt epect it in Bangalore though

The supposedly most "Internet Savvy City" in India - a cursory search would have given the Traffic Police all the more clearer and internationally accepted signage for this purpose

If anyone is looking these are the more accepted signage to warn about "VISION IMPAIRED PEOPLE" being around

Please tweet it to BTP, if anyone so wishes (I am not a tweety bird)

Someone did that and below is the reply

Traffic rules and signs-road_sign.jpg

It is present in Indian Road Congress 67 (link)

But I cannot understand how anyone would interpret this as a 'blind person likely on road'. The best interpretation could be there is a series of potholes or speed breakers ahead considering the condition of our roads.
