Team-BHP - why not a 2 stroke car?

we have seen 2 stroke bikes and 3 wheelers, so why arent (or werent) 2 strokes cars produced? 2 strokes are fun to ride then 4 strokes...........so maybe cars wud be even more fun to ride with a 2 sstroke motor.

Sadly, 2 stroke engines are on their way out for two wheelers too. As for 3 wheelers, no law or rule seems to apply to them so its unlikely that they will be forced to convert to 4 strokes.

Other than the Trabant, the Aussie 2-stroke specialist engine maker Orbital tried to make engines for the Ford Fiesta. Chrysler also had plans to equip their Neon with an advanced version of the 2 stroke engine. Orbital also developed a revolutionary two-piston-per-cylinder two stroke engine to address the fuel efficiency issues, but it turned out to be too costly to produce as there were few takers for 2 strokes.

Currently the only vehicles running two stroke engines on a large scale would be the Remote Control racers....

DKW was 2 stroke, so was Trabant, even the original Matador had a two stroke German Tempo built Viking engine, 2 stoke nearly made a comeback with the Orbital engine from Australia but sadly it got sidelined. 2 stroke is indeed a good idea now that pollution control can be easily achieved through FI and cat converters, they develop way more power, are lighter and have less moving parts and are easy to fix.

In the 70s-90s there was this Karnataka state minister namely B.Basavalingappa who was told by the experts that 2 stroke engines were the major cause for pollution. Grasping the gravity of the situation he quickly decided that all 2-stroke engine vehicles in the state should be converted to 4 stroke or at least 3 stroke engines, he was even willing to set a deadline until horrified officials of his department convinced him otherwise.

Of course, this genius is no more among us, although I drive in a locality named after him everyday... :D
