I've seen the hatch of an i20 craving in like a thin sheet when it was hit from behind by a moped at around 20kph.

feature-wise i20 has got more..but again that comes at a huge price difference.

can anyone shed some light on the 1.6 engine.
On the VW India site it is mentioned 1.6 petrol engine. But in other international sites like uk there is no mention of 1.6 petrol. Only 1.6 diesel is mentioned and even on wikipedia 1.6 petrol is not mentioned.

The 1.6 is the same engine also sold in Jetta petrol here. Jetta due to more weight feels underpowered with the same engine but Polo with the VW claimed 0-100 time of 11.XXsecs will be the fastest hatch sold in India.

Overdrive says:

"On the expressway, 150kmph is as composed as in a Mercedes-Benz"
for me some this somewhat sounds like vague statement with marketing gimmick . When they say MERC, is it C-class, E-class, S-class!

I am sure some of the Bhp-ians here would have driven Polo aboard. If they own cars like swift / i20 / Punto etc, kindly confirm what being told by overdrive is correct! How does Polo feels out of the world when compared to these cars

No doubt, Polo ride quality would be top notch.

I am eagerly waiting for an unbiased T-bhp report by very own MERC owner GTO
GTO, please take Polo to 150 KMPH and advice how it feel compared to C-class

PS : If Polo can feel like MERC!, what about VW Passat/Pheton like Maybach /RR?

At launch time, Polo is coming with 50% localisation of spares.
I read somewhere that VW intends to increase this to 75% over the next year.

For those buying Polo from the initial batch, would the service/maintenance cost decrease once spares start getting manufactured locally? How does this work, say in a Ford, which has gone for massive localisation recently.

+1.
Eagerly looking forward to GTO's kick-axx review.

Mods, apologies for the back-2-back. The topics are entirely different, that's why.

Interesting approach!

I am sure the number of bookings will be huge for such a car which is so popular internationally. Although not sure about the booking amount but guess it would be in the range of 10-15K or more than that. So the cumulative amount across our nation for these bookings would be huge and so will be the interest. Nice way to earn some extra money which is not cheating by any way.

Anshuman, any idea whether they started taking bookings for the diesel models also ?

Their car configurator shows 1.6 petrol as a engine trim level but the price is "NA". Does that mean it is guaranteed to come in near future ?

OT :
If we compare the accessory prices , few items offered by VW is in fact cheaper than FIAT.
For instance the rear parking sensor . I guess it's ~3.5K from VW and from FIAT it's 4.5K. Also does anyone know whether it will be factory fitted or for all the other accessories offered by VW , are they going to be factory fitted as we are configuring it even before placing the actual car order ?

Sorry for a long list of questions

That may not be official bookings. In Kerala no dealer was ready to take booking, atleast from me untill the prices were announced.

just came across this thread - a 3 cylinder 1.2ltr engine making 75bhp and people are excited, you gotta be kidding me :-) and to add that reviewers are saying its an amazing engine, silky smooth and not a patch on the k-series!
whatever happened to hatches slowly approaching the 100bhp mark, doubt if we will ever get a good hatch variant (japan, europe, someone??)

Looks like another heavy hatch with an underpowered engine, and 1.6 is another 6 months away. Waiting for GTOs test drive.

+ 1 to that.
VW has no service network beyond metros and few bigger cities. Shouldnt they have a good network before launching cars in this service range? I would
shudder to hand a German car to a local mechanic.
Spare part costs will also be very high if skoda is any indication.
Despite all the recalls, I would still go for a Toyota any day or any other Jap car.

car configurator for Polo ..

Hey guys ,

I am not sure if this was posted before , if so please delete this .

I saw this link in the Volkswagen website .
Comfortline features looks decent

Volkswagen Konfigurator

Change the tyres to 15" and fit an aftermarket alloy. It looks tempting for me .
Rear defogger and wiper is missing though!

cheers

POLO's kerb weight is around 1150kg, almost similar to Grande Punto.
