Was at the local Volkswagen dealer's service center some time ago. They claim 26 fully paid bookings most for the Comfortline followed by the Highline and then the Trendline versions. They were getting the cars ready for display and deliveries, per their request could not click any photos. The Highline comes shod with Apollo Accelere tires. The rubber quality and the finish looks similar to Michelin. Inside, the black bits of plastic look good but the dull beige ones are cheap to look at and touch. Somehow I was reminded of the old Tata Sumo/ Indica kind of plastic quality. Maybe VW has the same vendors for local bits of plastic as Tata. Nationwide the cars will be on display in showrooms from the 2nd of March.

I know I am late to enter the party here.

1) The diesel format will be available from May 2010. That is to the best of my knowledge. Can somebody confirm this ?

2) The brochure or website have not listed kerb weight of this car. I fear that the kerb weight is on higher side, above 1050kg, and coupled with a relativley weak petrol unit in 1.2, this car is not at all VFM.

3) The reason behind offering the 1.6 at low price is because the 1.2 petrol will have tough time powering polo. So the option of a much more powerful engine for low cost. But what about FE ? And even though the 1.6 is different from Jetta one, I am afraid that this is not a high tech unit. How can VW offer an older engine is a car like Jetta, which is placed higher in the market, and offer a newer engine with similar output for so low cost. I know its individual preference and depends on manufacturer, but these two cars are sharing showroom floor. The customer will ask why an older unit in Jetta ( which is so much more expensive ) ?
I think Palio 1.6 will remain faster than Polo 1.6 ( this is just a guess )

4) Any news on spare part price list ? I am more eager on this than the entire car, save for the 1.6.

EDIT :
The 1.2 TSI in International markets weighs in at 1157kg.
On Euroncap website, for the 1.2 trendline the kerb weight was 1035 kg.

1.This has been discussed in this thread several times, please go through it.

2.Regarding 1.2 I dont think a car with 0-100 time of 14secs will have tough time accelerating, its much faster than 1.2 fabia and 1.2 Punto. Maybe even faster than Punto 1.4.

3.How can you claim the Palio to be faster than Polo without any specifications? The VW claimed 0-100 for 1.6 of 11secs is faster than the Palio 1.6 plus Palio is tooooo outdated now, i am sure no enthusiast will be willing to buy one now.

1) Yes this has been confirmed by VW in the press conference, diesel available in may

2) I was speculating the same thing a couple of pages back, im quoting my earlier post below. The 1.2 seems to have good driveability according to the early reviews and should be sufficient for city use. As for VFM, thats depends entirely from which perspective you look at it. Its a premium hatch, with premium interiors(with a not so premium engine unfortunately). For someone who wants a high quality small car its VFM, and for someone who wants a cheap car, a swift/Ritz is VFM

3) True but the Jetta 1.6 dosent sell anyway, probably 95% of the sales are the diesel(no hard figures, just guessing here). I suspect they will put the same engine in the Jetta due to economies of scale and it needs an upgrade anyway. Even if they dont change it noone is gonna notice that the Polo 1.6 makes 103 HP vs 101 HP for the jetta.

4) No info yet, we'll probably have to wait a bit more time for that

According to the Volkswagen UK website , the unladen weight of the Polo 1.2 petrol is 1067 kg. The unladen weight of the 1.6 TDI is given as 1157 kg. So i guess the 1.2 TDI would probably be 15-20 kg less. The definition of unladen weight is given as

Link to the same is here http://cdn.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/c...v-brochure.pdf

So if we deduct the weight of the driver, the polo comes in at about 1000 kg. This seems a tad too low to me, as all the other hatches in its class are about 1050-1100 kg(kerb weight that is). Im guessing that this unladen weight is probably the kerb weight itself? Can anyone elaborate more on this. Also i suppose we could say that the Indian polo would weigh less than the european polo due to cost cutting and omission of some features. I checked the Suzuki UK website and the weight of the Swift 1.3 petrol is listed as 1045 kg. The Swift VXI in India weighs 1000 kg.

a nice 13 sec vid on the exteriors of the polo from carwale! It'll look even more fantastic with a few simple mods! How I wish they launched the 1.2 TSi :(

PS:

Just read the carwale review and even they are praising the petrol engine! Apparently the engine has a sporty note to it! Can't wait to test drive it! Plenty of detailed photos on the car wale review as posted by mkh, please check it out guys!

IMHO i20s cockpit is the best looking.

i20 > Polo > Jazz > Punto > Figo
