Fiesta thermostat replacement program

Guys,

Just got a call from my dealer MPL ford saying that Ford is replacing the thermostat for fiesta and there is a recall for this purpose.

Have anybody heard of this ? Mine is just a 2 week old fiesta and have had no problem.

regards
Bharani

Thanks for updating. Any information on which batch of Fiesta's are being looked at (year of mfd)?

Oh!!!

Did you try getting more details from them?

This is a surprise as there had been no such information.

Just off the call with one of the guys at MPL. The replacement is for both petrol and diesel manufactured in the last 6 months. The reply i got for the reason for replacement is that "Ford is bringing out an better thermostat than the one existing". I take that with a pinch of salt. Anybody having better contacts at ford or their dealerships, can you guys dig more info and let us know.

Mine is a Sep 2009 manufactured Fiesta and I have not received any calls yet. What exactly is wrong with the thermostat? What was the name of the person who called you from MPL? I have had zero issues with the car till now. Have you been facing any issues? Do you have to take the car to the workshop or are they coming to your place to fix it?

I got the call from MPL velachery. Some receiptionist called up to inform initially. I then called up my sales guy (Arutselvan) at the showroom (Nandanam). The sales guy mentioned that the replacement is for a better thermostat than the one which is present in the car.

Gilead... I have also not had a single problem with it. They want me to bring the car around on wednesday to the service center.

I just checked with my dealer, who has not recieved any such instructions from FORD so far.
He feels that this may be for some particular batch (VIN) of cars and may not be for all cars manufactured by ford.?

I might sound paranoid, but why don't you contact Ford with your vehicle details and ask them to confirm this. 'Better' thermostat sounds rather fishy to me.

Just sent them an email. Is there a way to contact them over phone ?

Not recd any call. Is this "better thermostat" a red herring to replace something more serious, on the sly. Called up Chennai Ford..they have no clue it seems about this as of now.

If I dont get a proper reply over mail or phone, i guess it is better to pay the service center a visit and get the details.

In case you decide to pay a visit, ensure to stick around and check out the replacement being made in front of your eyes.

I just got a call from a ford representative. He clearly mentioned that the there is a underlying problem in some fiesta's where the thermostat is not getting cut-off and is running continuously. They are calling the owners through dealerships only for a few batches of the fiesta. Rest assured, only if you are part of these batches you would be called.

What do you say guys, its better to get this done or not ?

@Bharani, its always better to get it done! I have spoke to one of my friendly SA and he advised me that this is a problem only with a recently manufactured batch of Fiesta.
