VW new sedan for India by 2010 end

Volkswagen India to launch an all new sedan by 2010 end

VW new sedan for India by 2010 end-volkswagengol1.jpg

If a report in today’s Financial Times is to be believed, Volkswagen India will drive in an all new sedan by the end of this year. The sedan, which won’t be based on the Polo, will sit in the INR 7-10 Lakh segment as Volkswagen’s product portfolio currently, shows a glaring deficit in that segment.

What we think is that Volkswagen India might bring in the Gol sedanor the Volkswagen Polo Sedan. Gol sells in South American markets. This sedan is a low cost sub compact that is quite popular in Brazil, a very similar market to that of India.

Also, we believe that Volkswagen will not design a sedan grounds up for India as it plans to launch it’s mid size sedan at the end of 2010, a move which makes it almost impossible to design and produce a car grounds up.

Wow.. that looks terrible. Looks like the Logan, DZire and upcoming Etios will have some competition for the ugliest car in India prize.

Aren't we pretty certain the new Polo sedan will be launched by end 2010 or early 2011? Its a generation newer and better in every way, and given the pricing of the Polo hatchback, the sedan should fall in the same 7L - 10L price range.

Sounds very confused to me.
Is based on Polo, is not based on Polo...
Will design from grounds up, wont design from grounds up?

Where does the Gol come into this??
Its fact that there is a notchback version of the new Polo on its way.
Some reportage seems to be based on a mix of hot air and bovine waste.

That may again one of the reasons, why Polo was priced in the 4-6L range. I was hoping that the 7-10 would be used for Golf. The sedan version, topples my theory!

This car looks like a early 2000 designed car and this car already start to show it's age.It will be a dull market like Logan.

The above mentioned sedan is the VW Voyage (the Gol is a hatchback variant) which was launched in Brazil in 2008. It is based on the VW's PQ24 platform on which the Fabia is built. It comes with a 1.6L 104bhp engine.

Dimensions

LxWxH-- 4230 x 1656 x 1464mm
Wheelbase -- 2465mm
Boot Capacity- 480 L

There were reports earlier that the sedan will be based on the New Polo. There were spyshots as well of its testing in some foreign locale.

But definitely not this... please NOT this!

The design of the car is definitely not modern, but this is not such an eye-sore like Logan / Dzire. The car seems proportional with decent interiors.

With a good engine and a sensible pricing this should sell.

+1. I totally agree. Looks simple, at the same time, pleasant.
Atleast we are getting this just after 2 or 3 years of international launch unlike most of the toyota's coming into Indian market after or close to a decade !!!

Its definitely not true, its been known for a while that they will launch a sedan based on the polo platform, ala dzire/maza. The cost and time savings from a shared platform is the main reason for this. Developing a new platform for a sedan from the ground up is both an expensive and time consuming affair

The VW Voyage is based on the PQ24 platform on which the Skoda Fabia is manufactured. Since Fabia is also made at the VWs Chakan plant, there is a very high possibility of this car making to India instead of the Euro Polo sedan.

Also as the car has already been designed to be sold in the developing countries, VW wont need much time to adapt it for the Indian market.

True but what about the volumes? The fabia sells a mere 500 units a month. IMHO the polo will sell a lot more than that. Higher the volumes, lower the cost. The polo platform was introduced just last year and is more modern, the weight has been reduced and is a much more forward looking move than using a fabia platform which is already 4-5 years old now.

The answer is there in your question itself. They are not going to phase out the Fabia anytime soon and by introducing the Voyage sedan they can maximize the revenue generated by that particular platform.

The car has a kerb weight of 1021kg and 0-100 timing of 10.1sec for the 1.6L engine. This is the info I got from the VW Brazil website.

From the front 3/4th it looks like a re-badged SX4. Why put a boot on a hatch & pretend it is a "new car"

Sad

The Gol is not related with current polo, it is only meant for South American markets.

We will get a proper polo sedan, or in apni bhasha polo hatchback with a 3rd box, the same one shown in shots below.
