Re: Transferring car from Pune to Mumbai

Agreed, but my point is why bother? Nobody is going to be that detailed.

Are you sure about this. I was told that Octroi of 4.55% would need to be paid on a used car currently registered in Pune to transfer it to Mumbai.

Yes indeed, I am sure. I would try and scan the relevant page of the Bombay Municipality Act and post it soon.

If what you say is right, then there's a major scam going on. Everyone I know who has purchased used cars or transferred their cars from other states are being made to pay Octroi.
It would be really helpful if you can point me to the relevant page as you mention, I'll pass it on to some of my colleagues who are getting their cars from other states.

That would be awesome if you could point us in the right direction.

Re: Transferring car from Pune to Mumbai

I have paid Octroi of 4.5% while buying a used car from Thane registration to Mumbai registration. I also have the Octroi Receipt. Would really be great if we could get a copy of the rules that state that no octroi is applicable for a used car.

All the RTO agents I have spoken to say that Octroi of 4.5% needs to be paid. "Saab Octroi to bharna padega" is the echo.

Without paying octroi transfer cannot be done. So even if the law states that used car = no octroi the practise seems to be the opposite.

I just spoke to the Octroi department in Mumbai building close to Manish Market. Contact number is 022-22658702. They said that Octroi has to be paid on used cars in case the car is to be registered in Mumbai at the rate of 4.5% of the depreciated value.

Re: Transferring car from Pune to Mumbai

Folks, Need help here!

What is the process for transfer from MH01 to MH02. Do I have to get NOC from MH01 RTO to register afresh in MH02. Or a simple name/address change will happen?

Yes, NOC would be needed from originating RTO whenever ownership change involves change of RTO; vehicle registration number needn't change as this one is within same state.

Re: Transferring car from Pune to Mumbai

I am buying a used car from Pune and I live in Mumbai.

My question is -

1) After transferring on my name, will the number change from MH12 to MH 01 ? And also the last 4 digits ? It has a VIP number, so worried.

2) How much octroi needs to be paid for MH 01 ?

3) Is NOC required from MH12 RTO ?

Congrats, I did opposite of this (MH01 to MH12) in 2012.

To best of my understanding, registration number will not change as ownership transfer is within the state. I am using same MH01 number in Pune.

Is octroi/local body tax still prevalent or is this specific for MH01? I didn't pay any tax while changing vehicle ownership.

Yes, NOC would be required from current owner RTO i.e. MH12.

Re: Transferring car from Pune to Mumbai

Its a simple process. Since its a different RTO in the same state, the only additional document will be NOC from MH12 RTO
