yeah, you read it right. read second page of hindu business line. the car will come late 2011 or early 2012. it will retail at about 9.8 lakhs approximately if the car is a CKD, if its going to be CBU expect it to cross 20lakhs.
premium hatchback market is getting hotter day by day!!

Would sell if its less than 10 lakhs. Audi's brand value wouldnt sell beyond that value for a hatch.

2012 is a long way away. There will be equally better cars 'made in India' by domestic/foreign brands by then. But its nice to hear that India is gaining major importance in the world car market.

Powerful engine, plenty of premium features (like sunroof, acc, touch screen interface with navigation etc) and an ex-showroom price of approx 9L and it would be a sweet car to own

highly doubt the difference between CKD and CBU is 10 lacs.
rather 3-5 lacs nothing more.

Exactly. Shouldn't Audi be worried about brand dilution? And even local assembly won't help Audi bring up equipment levels to the standards of the German marques.

Why is selling a hatchback brand dilution? They are not selling a inexpensive hatch. Its close to 10 lakhs and would have all premium features.

Problems with hatchbacks? The A3 is a hatchback, isn't it?

Hatchback prejudice may exist in India, but Audi doesn't share it.
