A friend of mine has almost decided to buy Fusion. What he wants to know is how costly are the spares as compared to Baleno. Could anyone please help ?

I looked long and hard at the Fusion, as I already have a Ford Escort. I had issues with the local dealer re service, so I asked for the price of bumpers and mirrors on the Fusion. Front and rear bumpers are about 15k apiece. Mirrors are about 2.3k apiece.
I turned right round and bought a Baleno last Saturday.

how much it costs for baleno??

here is the price for baleno's bumpers:
1. Front: Rs 3,750/- (without painting)
2. Rear: Rs 3,305/- (without painting)
Painting for each bumper costs Rs 3,300/- + tax

price for the each side mirror:
1. Just the mirror: Rs 2,000/-
2. Entire assembly: Rs 7,000/-

out of curiosity, why would one want to know the cost of bumpers?

s

so not much of a difference.

baleno is a different car.
so is Fusion.

for the top end Fusion, You get a ABS.
so i am not sure what a good and hard look means?

That means Baleno spares are still almost 1/3rd the price of that of Fusion

Because bumpers are what you replace the most. They take even minor scratches.
But i would like to suggest in case the bumber is bent, not cracked, go to a small shop. they will take it off, and then give heat to the interior side and shape it back to place. I recently got my indica bumber done this way. There was a big dent in bumper where plastic had completely bent along with the fender. These guys removed the fender dent, and the bumper dent without touching the paint. Same job at service center = 6000-7000 rs where 2500rs= bumper cost(Body colored) and rest is fenter repair, out of which about 2000 would have gone from my pocket, not to mention the no claim bonus lost!

There's this guy in Pitampura, Delhi who can even remove small body dents without the need to repaint and all (the type where the body is dented but paint is not scrapped). Takes a lot of patience but the guy is too good. Uses flat hammers and a lot of car wax.... Slowly tinkers the dent back to shape.

The whole point in determining the price of bumpers is not because you may actually need to replace them, but because it gives you a fair idea of the cost of other spares of the car.

If some engine part is damaged, reparing it might not be an option. So, the price of things like bumpers, mirrors etc, gives you a general idea of the spare costs.

Does it count in the cost that baleno as a design is a decade old and might have older gen bumpers while the fusion is a new car and materials used would be modern or something like dat ?

someone can give a view on this ?

What i think is all bumpers are reapirable - just push hard from inside when there is a dent and voila - the bumper is back in shape - 98% , isnt it ?

anyhow, i still have not changed any part. touch wood.
let me see.
unless the vehicle gets into a major accident(in which case one can get uptp 70% from the Insurer), i do not see a need for spares.
ofcourse oil filters at 20, 000kms, may be the clutch plate at 60,000kms, brake pads at 30,000kms.

any idea what else one changes in a regular long time run??

My brief was that the car had to be fun to drive, roomy for wife and three kids, and did not break the bank to maintain (three kids remember?)
The Fusion was good for the first, and only just so - the ride is too hard for my liking in the city. I must say it's a great design, and full of snazzy bits, but in the end common-sense prevailed!

Well my zen's bumper was slammed and rammed from behind by a biker who doesn't have a disc brake.. the bumper had developed a big crack and was about to come off.. went to this JC road body shop.. he sewed it together and put in a little heat so that the plastics can be joined for good.. and then painted the whole fron t and rear bumper.. matching with the body color.. Total cost Rs 1200.. (including painting, labor charges). A new bumper (not bodycolor) was supposed to be Rs 800.. that's why I decided for the sewing and heating job.. now nobody can even tell that the rear bumper have undergone this critical operation...

after all the heating, sewing etc, is the bumper as strong as before? am sure the bumper is there for a reason and just band-aiding it wouldn't really help.

Fusion parts would defenitly be expensive than baleno since it's newer in the market. More fusions on the road......lesser the price would get.....

IMHO comparing these both cars is not fair, since they have their own market...pros and cons....
