Butt since the 1.9 PD will be discarded. They will replace it with the 2.0 Crdi. But doesn't the L&K version of Laura have the 2.0 Crdi already?
if they provide the elegance, ambiente version with the crdi then the L&K version will loose sales.

AFAIK, the Laura L&K has a 2.0 PD and I think L&K isn't selling much anyway..it's only the elegance and ambiente versions which are selling the most.

And are there any changes expected in the 1.8 TSI??

Laura ambiente and elegance currently come with 1.9pd engine and Laura L&K shares the 2.0pd engine with Superb, this same engine was offered in Passat before CRDI came. Now All diesel variants of Laura, Superb, Jetta and Passat will come with 139bhp 2.0 CRDI engine, Both PD engines will be discontinued.

What will happen to Fabia which comes with PD engine? Will it get the CRDI engine from Polo? Since both cars share the same manufacturing plant and their petrol engine are similar this might be a possibility.

Wonder why Skoda is not looking at the 1.6 CRDI for the Laura. It produces similar power output to that of 1.9PD, with lesser turbo lag and is far more fuel efficient.

Given the fact that Jetta and Laura get the same CRDI engine, how should one choose between them? Would the engines be tuned separately?

Even the Existing engine in Base Laura and all diesel variants of Jetta is same. The 1.9PD engine runs same state of tune and offer identical performance and FE in both cars.

Jetta desperately needs a facelift if VW plans to compete with Laura and Cruze. The current Jetta looks too dull, conservative and dated.

.anshuman, I think VW will not facelift the Jetta considering the model replacement is due in about 12 months.

Correct me if I am wrong.

According to ACI some minor changes to front grille and bumper will be done with the Engine change. Do not expect much.

Guess finally there is only going to be a competition between Skoda and VW, they are eating thier own market share.

If you think the other way, Most diesel buyers in the segment will end up buying a VW group car. Apart from the cheaper Cruze they dont have much competition in this segment.

But given the factor that everything is similar between a Skoda and VW, one would surely buy a VW, wont one?

Sadly, the VW Jetta looks and feel dull inside and outside, on the other side the recently facelifted Laura feels feels like a fresher and more expensive car with better equipment levels. Personally i find the Steering, ride and Handling balance better in the Skoda.

Both these cars currently share the same engine, have similar pricing and have similar equipments levels but still Laura sells in better numbers.

Now this is really confusing.

The print version of the April Autocar mentions this:
"VW had the option to introduce the 2-litre 140bhp PD which can be upgraded tp Stage IV more easily. In fact, the Skoda Superb will continue to use the 2-litre PD engine and the Laura too will have a BS IV version of this motor as standard (the 1.9 will ve discontinued altogether)."
