re: New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120

Hey, I got this video as well:
An excellent video for a car test.......I guess, our auto magazines will never come up with anything similar
Sensible Fiesta - BBC Top Gear

The diesel engine produces very less CO2, that it falls into the No-tax bracket
This car has the feel of a VW and the sportiness of a Mazda for its handling.
And this has got a 5 minute shopping complex chase sequence as well

re: New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120

Y'day saw the car in flesh at select city walk, here are my personal views :

The car looks smallish overall

Dimensionally, it could be bigger than older fiesta but actually it looks small, the rear ends abrupltly

Front three - quarter looks futuristic.

Side looks good

Rear three- quarter okaish

Rear is......

New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120-image0117.jpg

Rear boot design

The rear is not something to write about, the beautiful lines & curves from the front & sides could have been managed better. Comparisons have been made earlier in this thread with Dzire & Manza, but comparison with back benchers is not expected from a global car.

New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120-image0114.jpg

The rear deck lines have an inward dip, despite this the rear visibility is reportldy not good, imagine if this dip would not have there (another Dzire..)

Interiors

The guys didn't budge to requests for opening the car doors because their boss had left and the keys were with him! I could not understand the logic! If the car is open for public display on a sunday afternoon, why this attitude? Ford, are you listening?

On the basis of peeps from window, the front seats & overall front design looked good. I was more interested to see the much talked about rear seat, but the boss was not there !!

hmmm, actually noticed this for the first time, but is that clear part in the rear light assemblies somewhat killing it?

Looks like---that part could be the single reversing light, supposedly 'European'.

If you look at the US model at page 12 on the 5th photo on post 177, the rear light at the left looks identical to the one on the right, unlike this Indian model.

Edit: Posting here once again for easy reference (sorry for the hazy pictures):

@Mustang.101

On the same lines as negatives of new Fiesta, let me ask you one more question.
What do you think are the negatives of new Fiesta as compared to old/classic Fiesta ?

The rear tail lamp cluster is not all eye catching. Looks really bland in those pics. Should have had the LED type rear lamps. Also I am not a big fan of the rear lamp cluster on the boot lid.

Does the Reverse sensors come as standard in any variant?

Well they can be :

1. Single reverse light
2. Cost : buying and owning
3. Higher boot lid (Though parking sensors are being offered for that)
4. Absence of beige interiors( most of the people like beige interiors, however i do not like them as they very difficult to maintain in India, ask me, I have 2 cars with beige interiors in each)

Thats a beautiful review! I had read that when it came out, but though they are now all gone since the site went paid.

This about sums about the essence of the new Fiesta :

Quote:
The anti-car lobby can never win its argument until it begins to understand that here in the West the car is not a tool. It is not a white good. It is not an alternative to the bus or the train. We do not buy cars like we buy dishwashers and toasters. It’s not a decision made on cost or practicality and it certainly has nothing to do with the environment. Otherwise everyone would have a Hyundai Accent with a three-cylinder diesel engine. Or a bus pass....

I say again. It is a cracker. And, like the original Focus, it is a cracker to drive as well. Demonstrably better than anything else for the same sort of money.Part of that is down to a fine chassis but some of it is also down to the engine.
Most points mentioned by JC are true for my Swift P as well, even though in the Indian context it sells for all the wrong reasons. The Verna may be a good car, but cannot tug at your heartstrings as the Fiesta can.
And for that reason alone, I know what will replace my Swift, when the time comes.

I have seen noticeable turbo lag in my BIL's fiesta. But it didn't spoil the overall drive-ability.

I can see the passion in your post! I just now saw the equipment list at the Verna thread. It boasts of lot of goodies. But still, I too am a passionate driver and eventually, heart will win over mind!

Thanks a lot, Mustang.
Point no. 4 would not be a negative to many ( I too prefer not to have beige interiors like you do...)

Point 1 is really strange and bad....

I hate point # 1 !! Have been noticing this in quite a few models offlate! But really, is there so MUCH savings by cutting down on one light ? And is there a way we could activate the second light at our own expense?

re: New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120

I also never thought that ford India would go the other car manufacturers' way by providing a single reverse light.

I do not think much can be done though, i do not think it is a cost cutting thing as many cars that are said to be "premium" also have this, eg: polo, sx4, fabia, Vento(?) and many others. There must be some stupid & dull European logic behind it, I do not think it is just cost cutting.

I can only think of negatives about this, does anyone know the positive?

re: New Ford Fiesta Unveiled : Report & Pics - Page 120

A Nissan dealer sales person, trying to convince me that the single reverse light in the Micra is good enough said that there is some logic behind it. It was not a cost cutting measure for sure! I wasn't too convinced then. But a growing number of new cars are going that way Apart from functionality, It spoils the looks of the rear tail lights too!

Exactly!!.. Norms are that you should have atleast one rear fog lamp, and reverse light.

Well, companies ought to provide, two of each, but they manage get through the norms with one of each, by just coloring/de-coloring the other side.
