Woaw! That's it. This is the final straw. This new baby HAS to join it's older sibling in our garage now.

Driving dynamics and handling better than the current Fiesta/Linea, souped up modern interiors and now this - a sub 10 sec timing. Just hope Ford puts in a VFM pricing as predicted and I'll move heaven and earth to convince my Dad that this is where his search ends!

+1 to your perception. I've driven the Accent, Verna and the Sonata Embera, but none of them come close to the Fiesta on the FTD factor.

Even Jeremy Clarkson has stated in his Top Gear review that 'Ford cars are more Fun to Drive when compared to other cars in the same segment'

I am glad that Ford is doing well in India now, as it seems to have learnt its lessons well after the failure of the Escort and the Mondeo.

As regards sales numbers, which somebody commented on, I don't think we should be bothered with the Verna RB vis-a-vis the new Fiesta. Going by the fact that the Dzire sells most among sedans, I don't think we should give credence to sales volumes.

I will just correct that quote from JC, Jezza said "Ever since the Focus was launched in 1998, all ford cars launched since then have offered a driving experience that you just don't find in cars of the same size or the same price"

Btw your interpretation was spot on!

Will the new fiesta go on sale immediately - How about Ford's capability to manage the initial rush ? Are they ready for it. Mustang, regarding the rear seat space can you compare it with any of the existing cars in the segment ?

While the diesel will be the most opted choice I think its the petrol engine that will stand out as a gem. Anyway waiting for the launch & first test drive report.

It will not go on sale immediately, The launch will take place more on the lines of the Figo. This is just a showcase event.

I will not compare it with other cars as otherwise, you won't see my on team-bhp then .

Test drive reports are already out, Check out the autocar website.

Spot on. Ford makes cars which are dependable, fun-to-drive and are much better than a Hyundai. But it is only their service that takes away all the fun in owning a Ford. With Figos selling like hot cakes, the workshops are already overflowing. The service levels have improved in the last 3 years, but the sheer volume of cars and limited service bays are pulling down service quality. Ford NEEDS to work on this and if they are successful, they could easily be amongst the top 3 in India.

I dont quite agree to your point here cos of two reasons: .
1. For Ikon Vs Accent: Agree both were running at equal pace for a long time Ikon was leading in the beginning, but Ford was reluctant to get any mods dont to Ikon, unlike Accent which had new variants like every quarters
2. Fiesta Vs Verna:
In this case, Fiesta was already a 3 yr old model by the time Verna was lauched, and even then Fiesta maintained dominance till a year.
After which Verna started taking the lead, even now the lead was not that higer till few months back. Fiesta was on top for most of the time.
3. All said and done the presence of Ford as a brand before Figo was as good as nothing. Most of the middle class dint recognize Ford brand at all.
Perception have changed a lot post Figo launch.

Correct me if my observations are wrong..

I agree on the FTD part, but Ford has never been a brand to be associated with dependability.
Hyundai still trumps the dependable factor compared to Ford.

Mustang - Is 14th April confirmed as the showcase date of the Fiesta ? Some other portals mention that its uncertain whether the date is for the launch of the new Fiesta or the Figo 1.6.

Also, when you say that it will not launch immediately, could you indicate by when do you see it reaching the showrooms? Will they disclose variants, features and prices or do you see that also happening later ? And if later, how much later?

Folks - ACI and all the other magazines have highly recommended the Fiestas ride and handling. First drive reports are out all over

I would dis-agree on this. My 2002 SXi is still running - without a problem.

Regular servicing and the front left strut and the rear left wheel bearing have been replaced - that's all I have done. It is still on the original clutch. Even I am shocked.

Also its gone through a K&N filter and an Automech exhaust for 3-4 years - and now back to original filters and exhaust.

And it's done 94000 kms.

For me - Ford has been the most dependable car ever.

NC, amazing to know that you are still on the original clutch. That's indeed pleasantly shocking to me as well.
My Flair is also 2 yrs 19000 kms young, no other expenses apart from regular servicing at all as yet.

I'm very sure that the Fiesta wasn't launched 3 years ahead of the Verna!!! Fiesta came out in Dec 2005 and Verna during Sep 2006. I'm very very sure about this.

The focus Econetic that runs on the 1.6L 105bhp diesel engine that will be launched in India, is rated 80mpg (~ 50mpg EPA-US).

80mpg Ford Focus Econetic - *News - MSN Cars UK

The diesel is again going to be an efficient engine, though I understand that the features that Econetic has in Europe that make it fuel efficient need not be a part of the Indian product (new Fiesta).

Looks like the Autocar website has crashed--all I get to see is html tags on all their pages.

You are partly correct--the Fiesta was launched in November, 2005 though.
