Who told you that the base variant will come with thinner tyres?

The wheel arches and the thin wheels along with the elevated boot makes the vehicle looks a relatively non-proportional. The tail light also could have been better. The sedan also looks small for its segment.
Does it really look like a Dzire and the Manza? I do not see any excessive sheet metal anywhere.

Mustang:

I am seeing a line from the rear lights to the tyres, I am confused, does it have a bumper that goes all the way till the tyres. Or is that a panel joint.
If its a panel joint can you let me know where is the rear bumper located. Am I missing something ?

It is the Bumper only. It looks better this way. Don't you think?

@Mustang.101, Bro, the excessive sheet metal that others seem to be excessively bothered about is the metal between the rear wheel arch and the quarter glass. The area which is the resultant of the rising belt line!

Guys, it might not be to your tastes, but its definitely much better than a dezire or a manza's boot job. Pls don't compare it with cars a segment below

It does surely look new-age and modern.
But was wondering if the bumper was this long, how will the body in white look? I am asking because I know the boot will be part of body in white.
Then the bumper I guess should be an attachment to the rear, fitted from bottom side isnt it.

Additionally, wanted to know does Fiesta have a frontal impact bar, or is the crumple zone similar to the Figo , for safety reasons.
As I mentioned in Verna thread, one thing I noticed is that the headlamp cluster and the fog lamp cluster is slightly placed behind unlike Verna where it is in the front.

That excessive metal seems to stem from the fact that the quarter glass is outside the shutline.
which is somewhat of an oddity.
Interesting, though!!

PS:that last picture is real nice!!

Mixed looks; needs validation first-hand to ascertain aesthetics.

Looks swell, but that is a helluva big bumper! Imagine the cost of replacement, given that bumpers get bumped every now and then ?

On the one hand, we have Figo owners who complain of wafer-thin bumpers, and on the other we have the NFS owners with gigantic bumpers!

BTW, the side profile looks hot, @mustang. It is only the direct view of the rear that appears a wee bit messed up, moreso due to the asymmetrical tail lamps on the Indian version. The US version looks a bit better on this count.

That is a massive rear over-hang right there. And that makes it look, sort of, disproportionate especially when you look at the front end which looks clean. Right below the rear-quarter-glass and above the rear-wheel-arch is a sea of silver metal that adds so much bulk to the rear design and IMO spoils the fluidity of the hatch's design elements.

The sedan isn't a good looker from this angle, and it will only look worse when it wears a coat of white. But I don't think the designers could have done anything different here. By changing the position of the rear-wheel and setting it further at the back would lengthen the wheel-base and will require extensive chassis modifications. And that would prove to be expensive for Ford to undertake and implement, is what I think.

Now this is a picture edited by me to include the quarter glass within the door shut line, how do you rate it with the original? to me it doesn't look better.

I think a large bumper has two advantages,
1. It reduces the possibility of damage to metal parts, which might be harder and more expensive to repair.
2. The huge plastic bumper, which reduces the sheet metal area would reduce a small amount of weight. Since this small amount gets reduced from the overhang portion, it enhances the dynamic abilities of the car and hence the small weight becomes significant now.

yes the problem is not with this part for sure. This still is part of the side profile. I do not see anything wrong here.

I have seen the new Mondeo's rear and there is something that looks really odd. There is some sort of a protruding projection because of the way the boot is designed ( they flow down and up and slightly forward around the tail lamp)and also the way the tail lamps are designed a bit smallish. Something am really unable to explain.

The fiesta sedan might infact be better looking than Mondeo's rear from what the pictures suggest. There is a hint of similarity nevertheless.

I Will say again that it is nowhere close to the ugly Dzire and sort of odd Manza's boot integration. I find Linea's rear also not very attractive.

I think we are getting too much carried away by Butts now.

Trust me guys, with such a steep shoulder line, there isn't much the designer of the sedan could've done. I really pity the sedan designers for the criticism they're to endure because of the hatch designers ! :(
Looks like someone forgot to tell the hatch designer that sedan is also in pipeline..or was it an afterthought based on hatch's success!

I agree with the others. The City & Vento have the best butts in the segment
Good to see GTO throwing some light on the fiesta butt. I was wondering whether its just select few including me who don’t like it.
I think pictures don’t tell the whole story. In flesh, the rear end is botched.
I am not a design expert but I fail to understand the trend of dynamic/kinetic design (pasting the butt on a hatch and taking it to another level altogether)..the old cars such as Ford Escort or Daewoo Cielo looked much more balanced compared to some of these modern sedans IMO

@Mustang.101 – I don’t think sales chart is any indicator of how car looks. If the overall package is good then it will sell. If this fiesta ticks most of the boxes then it will find many takers including me.

IMHO, its not the butt that the Fiesta really needs to worry about - its the equipment level and lack of space. The Verna is roomier, comes with classier looking interiors and most importantly, has the Fiesta beat on the equipment offered list -In addition to the Fiesta's offerings, the ANHV offers the chromatic rear view mirror thingie, 4 additional airbags, all round disc brakes, and keyless go, to name a few features. The Fiesta will outperform the Verna on the Handling front. But with the arrears on hand, that may not translate to a Sales victory for Ford.

Somewhere I feel whether this thread is about "New Fiesta Sedan" or "How Mustang.101 can defend Ford after unveiling New Fiesta Sedan?"
well, in this context I'm defending Mustang.101, because I don't think NFS is that bad as people are trying to prove it by comparing with DZire!

Agree on your views, but I guess both Fiesta and Verna caters to different sensibilities. The Fiesta should be more of a fun-to-drive car.

On a side note, if feature-packed models can rock the sales chart, then the i20 should have been the undisputed king of the hatch segment.

Very well said!
Infact, we should appreciate the fact that Ford is serious about the Indian market, and is providing us with a quality product. And I could see from some of the interviews given by Michael Boneham, that he is quite determined to cash on the success they tasted with the Figo.
