Rendering – Next generation Honda Civic

Reports are already out on the Japanese media concerning the next generation Civic (ninth generation) that premieres as a 2012 model year car in September 2011. Honda will adhere to the existing strategy of having more than one version of the Civic internationally.

The European markets will get the upgrade to the hatch, while markets like ours will have the sedan replacement, which is being examined here.

A report on a Japanese magazine discusses the smaller dimensions of the new model, which is codenamed 2HC. Due to excise benefits for thinner cars in Japan, the Civic’s width reduction brings it down to 1695 mm. The overall shape and construction of the new Civic will not be an extreme departure from the current model, quite like the 2011 Suzuki Swift which retains its shape. There is no mention of a diesel heart but we assume Honda will introduce a small and efficient diesel which should be a good answer to Toyota’s Corolla diesel.

As usual, the Civic will also get a hybrid powertrain. This is the same powertrain used on the Honda CR-Z – a 1.5-liter gasoline engine is paired to Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist. The hybrid can be bought either as a manual or an automatic variant.

Shoeb’s not worried too much with the body structure as it is reportedly identical

1) This is just a current Honda Civic, but its possible that the new Civic will have a similar face, atleast the grille. This is evident from the hybrid model in US.

2) I read somewhere that Honda is having tough time with the new Civic. Honda is trying to reduce the exterior dimensions of new Civic and also trying to keep weight in control. Along with this they are expecting more interior space.

If all the goals are achieved, then I think that the new Civic will be a great product, but beating down Corolla will be tough. Corolla gives just what the customer wants, somehow, while the Civic tries to be a driver's car, while being as good as Corolla for comfort. IMHO, the new Civic will be more driver focused, drawing an even more clear line between Corolla and Civic.

A disappointment?

From the picture the front end looks disappointing. It doesnt have the sleekness that the current civic has. The grill particularly is a sore to the eyes.
What about the interiors? what are the changes carried out? Has Honda retained the same digital clocks?

^^+1 to that. The front grill and the headlamps and the fender and the OVRMs - all look older than old City / Civic. I hope this news is not true and wish this is a PS work. Spoiled completely the latest Civic's star-trek' ish looks, IMO.

Yes i agree, the current generations civics headlamp design and front grill are much better than the picture poster over here. Hope Honda plays safe while bringing in actual changes in civics cosmetic.

Any Idea will the engine option remain same or any thing new in pipeline.

Guys this is not the official rendering ,it is done by our member SRk.He usually post the rendering pics about upcoming cars in Indian_autosBlogs based on his own assumption. You would also see his rendering about the M&M new SUV in M&M new world SUV thread.

^^Oops.. If that's the case, this is noway next generation look. It is at least 2 generation older looks. (e.g. the headlamps). SRk should evaluate comments on this thread and do a re-render I guess.

and to think people thought it was the next gen civic. But Honda could take a few styling clues from SRK.

I am not sure about the accuracy of the photo. Everything else from the side resembles the current Civic, just the hideous front.

Knowing Honda, they will never lauch a new car of the same variant that even remotely resembles the earlier car

I think it is just a speculative facelift. Can pass off as just another PS job of no significance at all.

The next generation version looks similar to the current civic except for the grill and headlamps. They would require a diesel heart to slug it out with the Corolla.

But does honda have a diesel unit with a capacity between 1.5-1.8 litre engine?

Is it not a little too soon for a cosmetic facelift given that the last one happened just eight months ago?

I don't think that is the next gen Civic. It is the USDM Honda Civic with a grill from Honda Insight.
