Ford Ikon Josh 100 edition ???

guys,

anyone here owns a ikon josh-100 edition ? had a look at it recently, fake leather/vinyl notwithstanding, it has a much plusher feel that than the other Ikon versions.

Shakti is quoting 5.58L for the Josh 100.

anyone know any better ?

also with the imminent launch of the Fiesta, any probablity of Ikon prices going down ? because shakti is also offering the 1.6 EXi for 5.75L on road (free ins and regn)

thanks,
hell_rider

Ya .. Josh 100 is a 1.3 ROCAM ...

so ...1.3 for for 5.58 L and 1.6 for 5.75 ..thats a difference of only 17 K !!
If that is so ... the 1.6 definitely makes sense.

Is the 1.3 heavily loaded and the 1.6 stripped ..??

thats just the thing. the 1.6 is not exactly stripped. its got more goodies than the 1.3 josh/anniversary edition. its just that the 1.3 josh/anniversary edition FEELS fully loaded. its got the fog lamps, the better seating etc.

It feels GOOD inside. the interiors blend cohesively. it may not be expensive materials but is very well executed. I found the interior experience and ambience more impressive than the 1.6 EXi or the 1.6 Zxi.

it comes with 13" wheels against the 14" on the 1.6 Exi and 14" alloys on the ZXi. but since my driving experience will also be largely dependent on the time i spend INSIDE the car, I think the 1.3 Josh 100 makes more sense.

and frankly, with almost 99% of my driving inside the city, i am wondering when and where i am actually ever going to get to use the extra power the 1.6 kicks out, considering our exceptional road quality. at least i'll get a marginally better mileage on the 1.3 right ??

these were basically my thoughts.

anyone with any more inputs ?

My take on this particular point is .. it feels better to drive a car with more power and low end grunt even at slow speeds .. it just makes the driving experience better .. having a 1.6 you would always feel that extra reserve of power ... and that feels good, even if you ultimately use it fleetingly ..

Q to Ikon owners .. does the throttle response get affected perceptibly in the 1.3 when the AC is on ? The AC should have a lesser effect in the 1.6 ..

Talking about FE , how many kms would you be running monthly ?

Hell_rider, even I feel that you should go for the 1.6 over the 1.3. You can always do up the interiors later. Changing an engine is not easy.

shuvc and typeonegative...

i do a mulund-kandivali-mulund stretch daily. thats almost 60-70 odd kms i guess. the ikon 1.6 is nowhere as fuel efficient as the petra 1.6 or the baleno. it returns around 7-8 kmpl in the traffic conditions i will be driving in. which is why i thought the 1.3 would be a better choice. i do realise that having a 1.6 will definitely give me the luxury of that extra grunt when needed.

just trying to find the right balance between needs and wants here .

also, like shuvc queried, i am curious to get any 1.3 owner's response on extent of power loss with the air-con on.

umm i own a 1.3 flair, but considerin the running that you do i'd strongly suggest the new indigo.

hell_rider , I understand what you are saying and prolly woudl be in same 2 minds when going for that decision, but I also agree with typeO and shuv abt the better driving experience of a more powerful car ...so there :-|

I would likely want to go for the 1.6 (as I have always liked the ZXi) though but also you can check out the new Indigo SX/GSX with goodies (leather, alloys etc) as it will be economical too.

I think he's more or less finalised on an Ikon ...

If I were you, I'd try to find out the real life FE figures for the 2 cars
(there should not be more than a 2 kmpl difference .. I believe that in general people who buy a 1.6 would tend to drive with a heavier foot than those who buy a 1.3 and hence will get a lower FE .. there'll always be exceptions)

Calculate the excess expenditure for the 1.6 ..
Then weigh the driving experience+goodies vs the extra amount I'd be spending.

Hell,

Thats a myth that the 1.6 is less FE than the petra. I own a S10 and a ikon 1.6 - the Petra is way less FE than the 1.6 with the kind of conditions i drove in ( 50-50 highway/city) with the ac on always - i never got less than 11 kmpl.

However i dont know what stretch u will be driving - maybe the Aarey milk colony im guessing - i think a 1.6 will be just fine for you. It has enough low end grunt for those painful moments in bumper to bumper traffic as well as good power - its got a nice ride too .

cheers

Dude, I don't know about the S10, but the Petra 1.6 does better than that. I am sure.

I am not saying this because I own one, but I have to agree with TypeO. Petra indeed is very fuel efficient. Never drops below 11kmpl on Pune roads.

So assuming an average 1kmpl FE difference between the 1.6 and the 1.3, and given that you drive 60-70 km a day (theoretically you are in the zone for a diesel .. but lets not go down that path).

Per month for 1.3 = 70kms * 30days/12kmpl(say) = 175 litres
Per month for 1.6 = 70kms * 30days/11kmpl(say) = 190 litres

So you are paying 15 * 50 (assuming Speed will hit 50 soon) = Rs. 750 per month.

Maybe you could curtail on something else in life, save on the 750 elsewhere, to avail of a better driving experience ?

It's your priorities in the end ...
