Just back from the Mercedes Benz E Coupe launch in Mumbai which took place at the Taj Lands End Hotel. Though the event was to start at 11 AM it eventually got under way at around noon with a ramp walk show by some fashion models. This was followed by the unveiling of the car. I found the Coupe to be much better looking than the sedan. The awesome AMG alloys add to the character of the Coupe and personally these are one of my favourite alloy designs.
Key features of the E Coupe: - Radiator grille with large central star.
- Attention Assist (Also present on the sedan).
- Keyless go
- Panaromic sunroof.
I met up with Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, the CEO of Mercedes and Mr. Debashis Mirta, Director, Sales & Marketing for a little chat on the E Coupe.
Some important points : - The E Coupe will be available with a V6 petrol only, the E350.
- It is said to be the most aerodynamic series production car in the world with a drag coefficient of 0.24 only.
- No plans of introducing the E convertible anytime in the near future.
- If volumes are good, Mercedes will look at the CKD route for the Coupe.
- Out of total E Class sales, Mercedes expects 10-15% to come from the Coupe.
- The E Coupe is priced at Rs.54.83 lakhs Ex Showroom Mumbai. The E350 sedan is Rs.49.41 lakhs Ex Mumbai. That makes the price difference between the two 5.42 lakhs. Not bad if you want to be different from the crowd and make a style statement.
Specs: Engine: 3498cc petrol V6
Power: 272 BHP 6000 rpm
Torque: 350 Nm @ 2400-5000 rpm
Price: Rs. 54.83 lakhs EX Showroom Mumbai
Here are some pictures I took at the event:
The ramp show and the unveiling of the car
The E Coupe
Notice the absence of the B Pillar. Design reminds me of the CLS. Rear windows roll down completely.
The interiors
The petrol V6
The front seats
The rear seats. Pretty cramped unless you are sitting behind a short driver :)
The AMG alloys. Just love those.
Nice Pics Dippy.
Did he tell you anything about their A class making inroads in India?
Also i am not sure if 10-15% of E class would translate to coupe - given that its mostly chauffer driven.

This is inspired from the website for the E-Coupe, as well as brochure etc. The whole models in a circle around the car taking photos of each other.

Not the hottest alloys, but they certainly do their part in setting the Coupe apart from the sedan in one more way.

I have a hard time believing that 15% of E-class sales will be from the Coupe!! Even 5% would be hard for me to believe.
15% of the E350 petrol sales being from the coupe - that might be more like it.

Wow..Great car! It is sensational looking and a worthy change. It is priced on-par with the Nissan 370Z and close to the BMW Z4. A lot of options for enthusiasts although the E-Coupe is more of a GT car than an out and out sportscar that the 370Z is.
Beautiful coupe this one is! And the price isn't that bad too. If you doing like being chauffeured around in an E-class, then this is the one for you. It has usable rear seats too(only if you have two kids :))
Love the cabin and the wheels, but the exteriors look like a tarted up Genesis. For that price i'd pick a 335i coupe and "M" it up.
E class coupe images standard version without AMG sports package.
The front angle-full of attitude. I turn around.
It screams-Don't mess with me.
It comes more closer and says-wanna ride with me? I hop in.
The stunning front three quarter.
Side angle looks better than the sedan
E 350 coupe in sanidine beige with rear curve inspired from classic ponton.
rear angle reminiscent of old W124.
standard alloy wheels, 17" size.
OSRVM turn indicators -arrow shot form design.
closer view of panaromic sunroof.
frameless doors with driver side memory seats and plethora of adjustments.
closer view. All windows wind down, so it has 4 power window buttons.
She screams attitude. So does me.
A tough guy meets a tough car.
instrument cluster.
light controls.
close up view of audio 20 and centre console.
7 speed automatic gearbox and comand knob.
sporty multi functional steering wheel.
co driver side door trim.
pic set 2 of the E350 coupe.
The final set of pics, enjoy the day!
Simply stunning especially in white!!
Nice set of pictures there! That car looks as if it's getting readied for a customer.
This is a full import or a CKD?

The E Coupe will be sold as a full import CBU but the guys at Benz say that if the volumes are good, they might look at CKD as mentioned in my post earlier.
God its beautiful! I am in LOVE!
Wow it looks awesome, specially in side profile.
Sid, nice photos dude, so Delhi already geared up for the E-Coupe.
I can see a black S600 in the background in one of the snap. Is that the same S-Guard or another S600? If so please post the photo in respective thread.
Dippy: How was the event? Is it a miss for me?
