Update:

Pawan Goenka, President - Automotive business, M&M on October 29, 2010:

- There are three phases to it the first phase is just the name Logan change and that will happen. That is contractual with Renault.

- So that name change should happen in the next 6 months.

- But then we will have the refresh that will happen about 12 months to 13-14 months perhaps.

- And after that we might be coming out with the less than 4 metre variant of the Logan which will probably take us about year and a half.

Re: Mahindra goes solo with the Logan. Renault exits Mahindra-Renault JV

Some news on rebranding and on new variants-

Quote:
Mahindra to relaunch two Logan variants without Renault brand
NEW DELHI: It's going to be curtains down for French carmaker Renault at Mahindra dealerships as the two companies chart out independent plans after their divorce last year. As Renault prepares for its solo run in the Indian market, Mahindra also gears up to sell the Logan with a new name, sans the Renault tag and its diamond-shaped logo.
Mahindra and Renault had last year dissolved their JV - Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd (MRPL) - after poor response to the no-frills Logan that had failed to enthuse the market and saw the two partners blame each other for the dismal performance. Mahindra bought out Renault's 49% equity in MRPL, gaining full control over the company.
"The transition will happen very soon," Mahindra's automotive sector president Pawan Goenka told TOI here. He said the Renault tag will be removed from Mahindra dealerships that were selling the Logan and had 'Renault' brand name inscribed on the outside. "There were around 150 dealerships that were having this joint branding (Mahindra and Renault). The Renault brand will now come down."
Importantly, the company is now working out an all-new effort for the Logan, the first and only product born out of the failed JV. "We are not entitled to continue with the Logan brand, as well as the name and diamond brand sign of Renault. Thus, we will be having a new branding for the car, and this will also happen very soon," Goenka said. Mahindra had been in-charge of the sales and distribution of the car from the beginning while the product know-how came from Renault's side.
Logan will now be Mahindra's first and solo product in the passenger car segment. The company has a two-pronged strategy for the car - developing a new re-styled version on the one hand, while also developing a new lower-price version of the model. Mahindra will reduce the length and other specifications of the car for the cheaper variant to fit it into the small car definition and to attract lower excise duty. Renault is also padding up for its new run. The company has decided to set up its own independent sales and distribution network. It plans to have 70 outlets by 2013.

Re: New Mahindra Logan

good news indeed naparajito.
poor logan - a much maligned beast in the private car buyers market largely because of the taxi usage.
actually it is a compliment to the logan that taxi operators buy it in large numbers - proves it is a solid, reliable, sensible vehicle.
look forward to seeing this all new logan - especially since as you say it comes fully loaded with some excellent and necessary features!
as you say amtak, the pricing is the key for this vehicle to take off amongst the buying public.

Its under 4m length means it will get the tax benefit.
Can we expect that within 3-6 lacs.
3 lacs for base model.
5.5 to 6 lacs for fully loaded model (With ABS/Air Bag etc).

if Mahindra price it better then it can catch some good market share.

Re: New Mahindra Logan

doesnt engine capacity also play a role in the tax benefit? I guess the same engine as in the present logan will get used in this new variant.

Re: Mahindra goes solo with the Logan. Renault exits Mahindra-Renault JV

^^ Nissan Micra also comes with the same Diesel engine as Mahindra Logan. AFAIK The upper limit to be eligible for small car excise tax rates is 1500cc and 1200cc for petrols. They do not have a under 1200cc petrol to offer for Logan CS, maybe they might discontinue Petrols for CS variant.

The game in the segment will be very tough soon with the launch of cheaper Fiesta Classic and Etios Diesel. The Etios with only the petrol version is already a hit, the Diesel version might break records.

True. Luckily, Due to overwhelming demand for the Etios P, the diesel is delayed and that gives it some breathing space.

Is the 1.5 Diesel being manufactured in India? My wild guess: M&M might be allowed to manufacture a 3-cylinder version of the engine by Renault.

All the more reason for M&M to pass on the tax concession to its Logan CS customers. Is the Logan CS a total refresh or just a boot chop job?

From Sources I know, the engine plant inside the Renault - Nissan plant in Chennai has gone online and is producing engines. Not confirmed of the 1.5L Diesel though.

Anyways not a problem for Renault to start it based on demand.

Renault Duster & Fluence are getting ready for an Indian debut as well.

Re: Mahindra goes solo with the Logan. Renault exits Mahindra-Renault JV

Mahindra employees say that they are even working on the NVH of the car to try to make it the best CS of India. But the main problem is that Mahindra don give the features which they test in TESTING vehicles. I saw one Test xylo which even had steering mounted controls but till date the Xylo has no steering mounted controls. And the main thing mahindra is working on are the wipers, because even we used a LOGAN for 2 years and it was terrifying in rainy days. Hope they sort it out this time.
The engine specs can be as follows-
1.5 Dci diesel 65Hp
1.2 Mpi petrol 75Hp
or
1.5 Dci disel 85Hp version.
Hope they bring in the 85 Hp version.

Have they decided on the new name? Wasn't it supposed to be changed by now along with the logo?
