Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Get the logo bolted if possible with shiny steel bolts, looks great fpr some logos.

My neighbour did this to his Honda city logo, not sure if it can be done for Suzuki logo.

The other change manufacturers MUST MAKE is the place where logo sits.
Any logo can be built with extensions which can be concealed behind body.

FORD logo is favourite with rickshaws in mumbai.

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

I say we should conduct an 'operation'.... even if it means a long time before we see results. Several car owners who have lost their logos should take help from others on TBHP and do this... probably at the same time of the day. Replace the logo and park the car in the same location from which the logo got stolen. Get someone known to arrive there a little early and then watch the car from a distance. Maybe take turns doing this with someone else. I'm sure there are folks here who feel strongly about this and are willing to spare the time. When and if they come to knock off the logo, pounce on them and thrash the daylights out of them. or follow them and find out where they take it. Probably take the cops help once we have a target.

... of course you have to hope that they don't know about this plan. You know, they could read about it here

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

The solution to Logo theft is deep etching of the car's serial(engine and chassis?) number on the front of the logo. Any attempt to remove the etching will lead to damage of the logo.

Most likely you would find schoolboys doing it for 'pieces of flare' or for easy pocket money.

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Personally, I would much rather have a debadged car. I believe in all go and no show.

That said, if I find some clown trying to do this to my car, would be tempted to thrash the living daylights out of him. Only I am allowed to make the changes to my car and not some thieving punk.

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

I was hoping that these incidents have come down of late (at least in Pune).
Somehow I am not seeing many cars without monograms (except for Skoda).

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

I remember when we were kids we used to put flat head screw drivers in our bags and try to take logos of various cars. Anyhow, I attached a picture of some logos before plating that are under development for Maruti, notice the protrusions coming out from the back side. I'm pretty sure if they apply this same concept to the outside logos it will be a lot harder to steal and if some one does try it would result in a cracked logo. Unless they scrape every side evenly.

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Happened again. Third time now. From different locations in South Bombay. Good localities all.

Had posted this pic earlier:

The star costs 3k each time and i'm extremely angry. Last two times i had used araldite to fix the star and last time also applied feviquik to the edges. Car was parked for ten minutes on the road and the star was gone.

So this morning, armed with a couple of wire ties i went and secured the start to the grill in an attempt to hopefully deter the thieves (in addition to the concoction of araldite and feviquik):

The ties:

Cut them:

Close up view:

Can't see the ties from further away:

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Hi Tejas,

Cable ties on Merc is strictly no-no. How about a cheap plastic imitation logo ? Anyway blackout logo also looks good.

I know, even i hate it. Today, i have a couple of surgeries in clinics in certain areas of town where i have to park the car on the road and don't want to risk it.

Shall leave them on till i come up with a better option. Maybe use fishing line to secure it. Let me think about it.

You're right about the black color. My first logo was spray painted black along with the grill when i bought the set from bangkok. Check it out:
(Can't find this size logo in imitation form in bombay. The ones sold here are a bit smaller).

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Plastic ties can be easily cut with a blade. I really doubt that they will provide any protection.

You could use a metal wire to secure the logo. A metal wire cannot be cut easily, the thief would need a tool like a plier to cut a metal wire.
