In case any one of you have used the aftermarket 'reputed branded mirriors' from Ficosa etc, pls advise me if I should go for that ? I use both mirrors extensively during my so called safe driving daily.
Also, if you know if there are any outlets (other than Tata) that sell these spares in Pune / PCMC area ?
I would suggest you to get the original ones from Tata as the non genuine ones are not convex but flat and during night the fakes become more of a nuisance as the light reflect back a lot. My suggestion go for genuine ones and install the metal frame around the mirror's glass. As thieves wont try to fork out as they would have to first remove the metal frame around it, which is the best deterrent.
Always go for originals, as fakes will never be same as originals.

But on this fateful day I parked my India DLX , once I finished my work at 7 45 pm and went to my Indica DLX car, i found that both the ORVMs are changed [ I realised moment I sat in te drivers seat] . I had earlier the antiglare convex OEM mirrors since its purchase and now they are replaced with just flat mirror glass, wavy, cheap, both sides [Checkd out from a garage that its a 10 mins job, if they have a small juggad to replace ] ....both the mirrors are now useless for me till i get the original ones from Tata Spare parts/dealers. Guys...pls be aware we have thieves all around and you can expect the unexpected any time. These petty thieves can steal anything from logo/ mirror plate/ wiper blades , that also in shortest possible time.
This is ridiculous. The thieves took away your OE mirrors and stuck non convex ones on. Supposed to be some kind of consolation eh?

I've heard of stolen logos, but mirrors . Next in line would be tyres & wheels I guess. Its time car makers thought of some anti theft mechanisms to protect these things from being stolen.

Uhh ohh.. I park my car out on the Hinjewadi roads many times when the parking of my co is full. Always dread about the logos , even though its a humble Maruti Suzuki, but you never know.
I depend on 'crowd security', ie, so many people loitering/hanging around, nobody would try removing logos/stealing stuff amidst the crowd.

Mine was a blind zone , behind ther building wall ....I had suggested my company security deppt to put a dummy board in that theft-prone area saying ' this area is under CCTV surveillance' just to ward off those petty thieves , but even after 1 week, nothing has been done by our sec dept. Lets see, i am coming early nowadays and parking inside, never know someday my fog lights, bosch wiper blades, the 'turbo' logo (that was replaced once after it was unsuccesfully attempted to be removed and it broke to 'tur..) might also vanish ;-)

Can we not as a forum members forward this as link to the poilce to show the extent of theft and register a complaint and request for necessary action. Or highlight it in media and see some action is taken.

@DSR_RPM: The problem with reporting these incidents to the police is, they consider to be petty theft. There's isnt much they can do, apart from having periodic checks. IMO, its a wave that will die it natural death. Wait and watch.

^^ Got this replaced from the friendly neighbourhood mechanic for 50 rupees.
Was it original ? I dont think so.
Was it the one stolen in the first place ? I dont think so either.

You think differently. Could you tell me how you predict that could happen?

I am sorry, I didnt get your question.
Did you mean to ask as to how would this crime die its own death?

Well, there are only so many logos that one would steal. I am not saying, theft would stop, I am saying, theft of logos would die its own death. There would be something new that may crop up!

Till then, someone like me would drive the car logo less. I know of a lot of people who do that.

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

I had both my H logo stolen at my parking lot at home. The security person sits (or sleeps) about 10 m away! The front logo was stolen again a few days after it was put back.

A friend of mine as an Innova. The logos were stolen, he got a bunch of fake Toyota logos from Delhi and even they were stolen!

If such thing would happen in my building, as my car VW Vento too is parked 1.5m away from the security guard, I would have deducted the amount for original logo from the maintenance paid for the reason stating deficiency in services provided. What next car being stolen from parking lot while the guard sleeps. Have the security agency changed.ASAP.

I did protest, talked up to the highest authority of security. The whole system is rotten. Moreover, my case seemed to be a targeted one, because a few days earlier I had scolded a few people who were driving bike very rashly in children play area (as usual the security was useless). There were a few more Honda Citys in the same area, their logos were intact!

Re: Car logo theft / monograms stolen in India

Saw this beautiful X5 this morning on my way into work looking somewhat weird from the back. Looked closer and noticed the telltale holes where the BMW logo had been heartlessly ripped off . Whoever said this crime wave was on the downswing was sadly mistaken!

Its horrendous to look at, I can only imagine how ticked off that guy would be. Of late, I have noticed quite a few autos with BMW, Skoda, VW and Ford logos. It seems there are other buyers for them too!
