Its raining Mercs - 115 Mercedes booked at Aurangabad

Just got to know of a brilliant deal executed by a corporate based in Aurangabad with Mercedes Benz for a minimum of 100 cars! Merc gave same fabulous discounts and ended up selling 113 cars. Mostly new E and surprisingly many M class as the discount on the M was too mouth watering to pass up. Here are the details -

The rates in bracket are original and exshowroom: C-250 26.5(32), e350 avanta 42(48), e250 elegance 37(41),e250 34(39), s350 71(81), gl350 64(70), ml350 45(58). All cars are cdi model. All cars will have a 3yr service free (upto 60k km). This otherwise costs 2lac which is not included above. The registration has to be in abad or nearby cities only.

Before you all get too exited about it let me just inform you that the deal has been completed and they are not taking any more orders.

Those discounts could be due to bulk/fleet purchase by the buyer(assuming the there is a single corporate buyer), If i am getting it right.

This deal for Merc, was result of group buying here is the link
Lokmat News Service.
http://epaper.lokmat.com/Default.aspx?EId=170

It says apart from usual blah blah that this is the first time that such a large purchase on individual level has taken place in the country. It all started with some like minded people decided to go for group purchase and the brand decided was "Merc",initial target was of 50 cars, but as the news spread more people got involved and number rose to whopping 115 cars. All these cars will be delivered by October( somewhere around dussehera)...

Whats interesting is that the dealers will end up making a profit even at these deeply discounted rates.

Now imagine the profit margin on individual sales.

I think the dealers arent giving the discount. It is the company.

So, the dealers will make money, but not too much. And in normal circumstances as well, the dealers dont make that much money. They make money in the servicing. They dont make enough to stay profitable purely on new car sales.

Should pull off a group buy for 5-series BMW's five years from now, when it's time...

Its raining Mercs - 115 Mercs booked at Aurangabad

Read in todays TOI, Mumbai about 115 Mercs being booked at Aurangabad by the so called Aurangabad group. The booking if for C, E, M, S and GL variants. The group got a fantastic price for booking at one go. The delivery is expected in Sept-Oct during Dussera.
And to know that Aurangabad is reeling under drought, poverty and no industrial dev for god knows how long, its really suprising that Mercs are being booked.

Win Win situation for everybody. The customers, dealer and MB all made a hefty packet in one go. Although the final prices would be a closely guarded secret, but still any member knowing anybody from the customer group can give any idea of likely prices.

May be this can start a new trend in bulk booking and massive discounts. What next 125 BMWs from Ludhiana, 140 Audis from Kochi or Banglore, and perhaps 200 cars from Delhi all at 20% discount

Man, this takes "group buying" to an entirely different level in the Indian context. I guess its the first time that individuals have collaborated, to use the advantage of bulk purchasing toward discounts. Its noteworthy to mention that they considered "other brands" too. In almost all certainty, we can safely presume that BMW was part of the negotiations. Audi? Maybe. The Skoda Superb must feel terrible about being overlooked; Aurangabad is Skoda's home town!

On the other hand, delivery is going to take them another 4 - 5 months.

Tomorrow 30th April is the tentative all INDIA launch of the new 5 series, with the controversial Bangle styling suitably toned down,,this is the event that Mercedes was trying to preempt so as to hold on to the lead held by the new E-Class in terms of sales

Similar attempt was made in 1997, by my dad's then office staff to buy at least close to 50 M800's.But the dealer and Maruti's regional office was least interested...so all the cars were purchased individually.Probably this(Merc's) being a luxury segment buy company has shown so much interest.

MB's Executive Edition priced at Rs.27.5 lacs is for fleet sales (scheme sales/ offer) & not for individual buyers, unlike BMW's CE, which can bough by individuals as well.

These big numbers by MB are actually fleet sales to a Hotel or big Taxi operator, nothing to do with enthusiasts.
