Will be interesting to know how Petrol cars are doing in this segment, since the engine capacity is restricted to 1200 CC.

as far as Polo is concerned the maximum numbers would be of Petrol, since Diesel is yet to come out in full fledged.

@arishi1:
I suggest you go thro' that thread once more. There is nothing to cheer for fiat fan boys. Why? -- here is the reason:

Almost 30% of the t-bhp population claimed that the fiat *** is either below expectation or even worse. Just 50 % of this population thing this is just average. So, with what you are boosting for?
Now, look at the other numbers - i.e. sales numbers. The fiat sales are going down month after month - It is the only hatchback other than UVA, Jazz or FAbia that is on the sales chart with number south of 1000.
I completely agree with the poloman. Fiat in India is a Failed brand. Wait ...it was failed in the US too before it was booted out......no wonder, people in the US call them Fix It Again Tony

Even VW service is nothing to write about. Let them prove something worth before commenting on other manufacturer.

The sales last month comprised 2,787 units of HSCI's flagship City sedan, 188 units of the premium Civic sedan, 194 units of the luxury Accord, 338 units of the Jazz hatchback and 71 units of the CR-V sports utility vehicle.

So Honda's 'highbrow-attitude' and atrocious pricing policy is slowly showing results in pulling the company's sales down down and down. All of their products have shown sinking sales.
Honda cars were at the top level earlier, but the news of taxes going further northwards in April made lot of Honda lovers like me rush for bookings. Now after the April price rise Honda cars are definitely not worth the features they provide.

@mohandas: You need to think more than just poll numbers. If you see the Hyundai A.S.S results it is almost similar to FIAT's. 28% have voted Below Expectations or Needs Improvement. 42% have voted average.

Honda has to bite the bullet and price its new compact car sensibly, because we can clearly see, people are no longer willing to pay through their noses for the 'H'.

POLO total booking of 7,300 cars, backlog stands at 5,700 units

Polo has total bookings of 7300 cars since launch two months ago, reports ET. 1600 sold so far, backlog of 5700.

These are very good numbers considering that it was priced at a slight premium. IMO VW anticipated a demand of about 1000 per month, which matches their production capacity of 900 odd at chakan plant. However the actual demand is about 3700 units per months and hence the wait period of 3+ months.

For those of us not convinced with their production constraint argument need to read this article. It is indeed very difficult to increase production 3 fold without compromising with quality - especially if your suppliers are not ready / competent to ramp up so quickly. We don't want parts falling off the polo, do we?

VW is doing the right thing by gradually ramping up production and not forcing vendors to triple their output overnight. This will help their image in the long run. If anyone is to be blamed, it is their sales/marketing department for failing to estimate demand correctly. Ford did a great job on that front. VW underestimated demand for a premium car at a higher price. One more example that we are ready to pay a premium for a good car.

Honda has to do some soul searching immediately. With the launch of VW polo sedan, City sales may fall further.
Polo figures are truly impressive. In a big state like KA currently they have dealerships only in Bangalore. So there is lot of room for further growth. Once they penetrate to tier 2 cities the sales will increase further.

I think VW doesn't want to sell its car to the mass car market. I'm sure with the new 'affordable' hatch, VW dealerships are seeing more of mango people and might intentionally ward off a certain kind of people looking for an immediate car. That is why they probably talk about the 4 month waiting period.

When I went to a VW dealership last week, even before I spoke a word, I was handed over pamphlets for the Polo. Maybe my helmet 'gave it away', that I could not buy a costlier car. But that is certainly not the right attitude.
