VW has a backlog of 5700 units:

Source

This explains the 900+ figure of April. They just don't have the capacity to produce at the required rate.

A Punto owner like me won't be happy seeing the dwindling sales of the beautiful machine. Still the best looking hatch in Town! But as long as perceptions don't change, it'll be the same for FIAT. The TATA JV was needed initially, but am sure FIAT will be looking to go solo at some point.

Based on my personal source, the number is somewhere between 1200-1400. According to some dealer, these models won't leave showroom easily.

The company sold 3,507 units of the hatchback Spark, 692 units of the sedan Cruze and 3,852 units of the latest compact car Beat in the reporting month, it added.

It also sold 529 units of premium hatchback Aveo U-Va, 315 units of the entry-level sedan Aveo, 62 units of the mid-sized sedan Optra, 1,529 units of the multi-utility vehicle Tavera and 115 units of the SUV Captiva.

Beat sales are below 4k mark! I wonder if it is the tax effect or is it a realistic figure!

62 optras! why does GM have the optra in the sale line up!?

Captiva is fading @ 115nos!

Beat is a realistic figure in my opinion. People either love it or hate. They'll take time to get used to it. I feel over a period, the number will fall and settle at 3K units.

Its time now to bid adieu to UVA and Aveo and Bring in New Sedans/Hatch. I feel optra should be priced at Aveo pricepoint now.

Beat's USP is styling, ride and VFM pricing.
However if you want to sell a car in long run the major factor should be performance and after sales service along with VFM.
Consider swift, I10, Zen(old), City, Esteem, Santro.

Beat's Lacking in performance will definitely take away its VFM advantage. I think it will settle to something arnd 3500-4000.

One more thing is that Expensive sedans may succeed. City beats Sx4, Fiesta, Verna.
But expensive hatches will never succeed. like palio 1.6, Fusion, Jazz.

Does GM has sufficient capacity to produce beat if its demand increases? I doubt.
With the increased service station and dealers from 2 to almost 4 in Bangy I am sure they can handle sales and service. But they should also "deliver" cars.
So, better GM start increasing their capacity. Because, I don't think a waiting period for GM cars will be good

Thanks PCS for the excel.

So Alto is back to its usual nos. The i10 rise to 15k was an aberration and is now back to the usual 12k nos though it has taken the no 2 position. Wagon R with the new model is a close 3rd. Spark and Beat are doing good for GM.

In the B segment, the undisputed King is Swift and by miles. The nearest competitor is Figo (Am assuming Indica Vista is probably just half at around 5K). i20 is remarkable breaching the 5K barrier. Surely the launch of era variant has pushed the sale to 5k. I think the biggest disappointment is Punto. With these new launches whether Maruti is affected or not, Surely Fiat is affected and big time.

The C segment again has an undisputed king in Dzire. The Manza must be around 4k I guess and is not posing any threat as many had forecast. Fiesta seems to have been hit big time with its sales halving to 800 odd (Figo effect). Sx4 is continuing steady at 1400 thanks to the VVT engine. Accent and Verna seem to have done very well.

Altis is dominating the D segment with Civic panting for breath. Cruze and Laura are breathing down the neck of Civic (God save Honda as even city is dropping).

Thanks PCS. Some interesting bits -

1. Swift beats i10 too in sales - Fantastic for Maruti.
2. Fiesta at 858?? - Feeling the heat from Figo!!!!
3. Linea sells more than Punto - Again a surprise.
4. Jetta selling more than double the Civic with meagre no. of delaerships - Are Civic numbers a one off case for this month, even City is down, may be some unknown reason.
5. Supeb and Laura beat all Skoda horror stories.
6. MB and BMW down to the wire.
7. Surprise - Is Elantra still selling, wonder why Hyundai is making that?
8. Ikon seems to be dying slow death.
9. Estilo numbers continue to wonder me. How so much people can buy this when there are enormous other much better options.

Amazing numbers by Figo. What is even more amazing is the number of i20 Hyundai has managed to sell

Fiesta numbers are sacrificed to meet the demand of Figo, while VW is focussing on 'quality' by selling in 3 digits. Wonder what their understanding of volume model is.

Swift is continuing to amaze us all. 5+ yrs, and still retaining the top spot. Way to go.

Cruze @ 692?? Its 2nd in sales in that segment, not bad. But i have hardly seen Any Cruze on the road. I think diesel Altis will make sure Altis maintains between 800-1000 per month.

Thanks PCS for the most awaited data. A quick observation -

1. The total no. of vehicles sold less than last month but Alto could able to increase the sell
2. Fiat Punto end up with all time low figue of 840 unit
3. I guess now the time has come to draw the curtain over Getz (April - 62; March -305)
4. Every body said Polo is a good car, sales figure doesn't reflect that. When it selling ~ 1000 units per month it'll never go beyond 2500-3000 units/month. May be people outside TBHP thinks differently.
5. Verna sold 1865 cars, I guess it's all time high for this car (April'09 - 1244, March'10 - 1366)
5. Most stricking downfall observed in Honda, especially City and Civic -

Jazz (April'10 - 338, Mar'10 - 571, April'09 - Not launched)
City (April'10 - 2787, Mar'10 - 4338, April'09 - 2801)
Civic (April'10 - 188, Mar'10 - 742, April'09 - 625)
Accord (April'10 - 194, Mar'10 - 211, April'09 - 230)
CR-V (April'10 - 71, Mar'10 - 66, April'09 - X)
I'm just wondering how a company sustaining after selling ~3500 unit, I think to balance that they keep the price higher than other manufacturers.
