My WagonR 2005 model is still going strong after 40k kms.
The car recently got a tyre upgrade!
Planning to get a new one after bidding farewell to this one.

I had the first gen Indica Diesel. Had to sell it off after the mechanic told me that the pressure in the engine was dropping and would need a rebore which would cost me about 25 to 30k. Even after a rebore he said I could clock max about 20k more. It has already clocked 80k.

Apart from that the first gen Indicas had a very unrefined engine and mine use to burn 2 litres of engine oil for every 4.5 litre put into it and the coolant used to get consumed almost every 3 months. Upkeep cost had increased considerably. Moreover the first gen Indica had a very heavy body which gave a lot of pressure to the shocks. Invariably after a point in time the body would incline to one side due to the weight. I must have changed the shocks atleast thrice. And that too my running hasnt been too much. 82k in 10 yrs which is very less for a diesel car.

WagonR year 2001, was happy but was not comfortable for long drive like 1000+ kms, sold it in 2003 and got Corsa 1.4 the ride comfort was good and so was the engine, sold it in 2008, after the closure of Opel brand and the vehicle started needing spare parts which were hard to get. 2009 got a Scoprio VLX 4x2 even though wanted a 4x4 and at that time only 2.6 CRDE was only available in 4x4 version which I was not interested inb, got the opportunity to get a fully loaded VLX AT 4x4 in 2010 with airbag. so the current one is Scorpio 2.2 VLX AT 4x4.

WagonR driven 30K kms in 2 years, it being my first car was driven like crazy, Corsa driven 50K kms in 5 years and Scorpio VLX 4x2 driven 24k kms in 1.5 years, before I sold them.

Sold our Maruti 800- wanted a better car, was too old also and no AC:(
Sold our Santro- wanted better car, santro too was bought used and had served us very well
Sold our Getz- Dunno why really, still wondering
Going to sell next car- only when want a better one
Feel like trying out new cars in every 2-3 years. Since bought almost all used, did not lose out on a lot of money also as depreciation. Claimed depreciation for business on all cars bought. Wish had seen the new circular for this year where 50% depreciation was being given for cars bought till Sept 30 2009!!

Sold Zen - to buy OHC 1.5
Sold OHC - to buy Octavia
Sold Alto - to buy Wagon-R
Sold Wagon-R - to buy Ritz

In all cases (except the Wagon-R which became a pain to maintain), the car was sold to make way for a new car. None of the sold car ever gave us any problems.

1. I sold my 2006 Feb Santro in June 2006 as I was relocating to US.
2. Sold my 2004 Ford Taurus (bought as a "Ford certified") car in 2006 when I relocated back to India in late 2008.
3. Had to sub-lease my wife's beloved 2008 Town & Country van when we relocated back to India

I miss both the van and the Taurus even now!!

Sold Maruti 800 (2004) - Due to some personal issues
Sold Matiz SG (2006) - Down payment for buying house
Sold Indica XETA (2009) - Sold off as this was not giving driver pleasure and reliability.

Did not had any major technical problems in any of the cars.

Enjoying Swift Diesel from Day 1.
It covers most of my requirements and an awesome drive everyday.

Hi,
was this due to bad wipers etc.

We sold our 1984 Fiat aka PP in 2002.It went for a 10K.The car was scrapped as it was sold to a scrap dealer.Remember my dad telling how the dealer took the car away with a tow chain.Would have been a painful sight if i was there to see it but thankfully i wasn't.

I really wish we could have kept the same but at that time i was just a college passout with no income so had no say in the same.We had a bought a new 800 in 97 so keeping two cars was getting expensive since my dad had retired from service as well.

I sold my Maruti 800 to make way for a hatchback i.e Santro and sold santro to make way for a sedan i.e Ford Fiesta. Slowly and steadily climbing up the ladder. Guess what would my next vehicle be?

I always buy my cars new, and sell them after 6-8 years. I typically drive about 14,000 to 15,000km per year almost equally divided between my two cars. I have a larger car for highway and occasional city use. This has been Esteem (1996-2002 when I had a single car) and an Accent (2002-2010). When I sold them the Esteem had done 63,000km and the Accent 58,000. The second car is a smaller automatic runabout (Zen AT - '97 from 1999 to 2005) and a Santro AT (since then).

My experience is that a car is relatively trouble free for 50,000 to 60,000km. Since I drive myself on the long runs, reliability is paramount.

Now I may consider keeping my next car for 8-10 years!

I hear that there is a Govt. rule that a car can be changed after 50,000km and/or five years. I thing there is some sense here!

Why 5 years or so many kms , shouldn't one be able to sell their car whenever they want to irrespective of the no of years or kms travelled ?
