Logan 1.6, Aveo 1.6 & Fiesta 1.4 - Why were they pulled back?

Logan 1.6, Aveo 1.6 & Fiesta 1.4 - production of all three have been stopped, some recently and some long ago.

Would like to know what were the reasons these models (individually) did not do well and why they were taken back.

My understanding:-

Logan 1.6 - 1.6 Engine was no real value over the 1.4 one. Performance enthusiasits had better alternatives.

Aveo 1.6 - Ditto as Logan 1.6. Some people even were of the opinion that 1.4 actually was better to drive !

Fiesta 1.4 - Not really sure, but i guess it was overlapping with iKon 1.3 ?

My take -

The primary reason for premature demise of these three is a single car - Fiesta 1.6.

It made both Logan 1.6 and Aveo 1.6 look sluggish and bad choices. Again Fiesta 1.4 didn't stand a chance before the 1.6. If you wanted a more sedate Fiesta, there was always the TDCi.

Petrol sales make up only about 25% or so of total Fiesta sales. Out of the 25%, a good majority were petrolheads who were buying the 1.6. The only thing the 1.4 had going for itself was marginally better FE. So Ford tweaked the 1.6 to deliver nearly then same FE without sacrificing performance and shelved the 1.4 and the costs associated with maintaining two petrol engine platforms. And Ford can't really position the Fiesta as a fun to drive car (which is one of its biggest positives) by giving it only a 1.4 engine. So the 1.6 won out.

And like CoolFire has said, the Logan and Aveo 1.6 were killed by the Fiesta 1.6 so there was no point in continuing to produce them. You have to stop production once sales fall below a certain critical level.

IMO, the Fiesta 1.4 was more of a proposition for those who were looking at a modern car over the Ikon 1.3, but with better FE than the Fiesta 1.6. In that sense, it should have appealed.

Possibly, sales didnt justify having that as an engine option or else before the Ikon D came into the picture, the Ikon petrol made more sense from the Ford stable to people who were looking at a FE entry sedan.

As for the Logan 1.6 and Aveo 1.6, they were decimated by the Fiesta 1.6 as rightly mentioned by the others. The segment leader for comfort was the NHC, driving dynamics was the Fiesta 1.6, and space was the Logan's USP. However, at lower pricepoints, the 1.4 versions of the Aveo and Logan may have made greater economical sense, possibly because the 1.6 versions didnt offer anything remarkably greater/better.

You can add these to the list as well

-Ford Ikon 1.6
-Accent 1.6 Tornado
-Accent 1.5 crdi
-Lancer 1.8 AT (not sure about this one)

Fiesta 1.4 was the price leader but jack of all trades but master of none. I hope Ford can put this into a Figo.
Logan 1.6 is a good torquey engine but pointless for the VFM customer
Aveo..beause the 1.4 is a v.good engine.

The Logan 1.6 STILL sells (as Meru Taxis in Mumbai.) Saw a bunch of about 120 of these at a CNG conversion centre a month ago.
AFAIK, even the Aveo 1.6 is still available. I dunno about the production bit though.

In the case of Logan and Aveo, they had cheaper petrol siblings (the 1.4s) which were more efficient and the loss in power wasn't huge.

In the case of Fiesta 1.4, imho, it was done to make a gap b/w the ikon and the fiesta.
