While congratulations are certainly in order, it's not that big a deal. The Fiesta's been on sale for about 55 months now (November 2005 launch). Thus, the average sales work out to 1,800 per month. It's bettered by many of the C segmenters, and equaled by most of them.

Not a bad milestone for Ford. The Fiesta S did revive interest midway in its model span. While this did not jack up the number of Fiestas sold, it certainly brought the josh back into the car.

However, Ford could have done a similar Fiesta diesel S with the introduction of the 1.6 TDCi. It would have been a potent mix of sharp handling and steering feedback, decent ride, good power and diesel economy to boot.

Off-topic, which other cars made it into the top 10 drivers cars? I couldn't find this anywhere by searching.

Are you sure that Fiesta was launched in November 2005, because as far as I remember, I had taken a test drive of Fiesta in Feb-Mar 2005.

Ford had reached the 100,000th ford sold in india with a Ikon, and now another 100,000 of a brilliant drivers car!Kudos to ford for giving us such involving cars and also convincing the mass consumer to buy it and make it a success.Very few manucfacturers have been able to do that.

Congratulations Ford. Fiesta has outlived their own expectation. They were almost limiting their inventory on the launch of SX4. If only SX4 had not belied the expectations!!!
Another question - when did Ikon achieve this 100k figure? Because i dont remember any such accolades being levied on Ikon.

According to 2009 and 2010 sales figure, the average sell of Fiesta is not more than 1000 units/month (invariably less than that). If Fiesta is there in Indian market for 55 months, Ford has sold ~ 55000 Fiesta so far. Are they export Fiesta from India? The production is not = the market share. It just a marketing gimmick.

I'm pretty sure as I drove one in November 2005 at a Ford dealer.

From Jan to March 2010, they've been selling between 1,400 - 1,700 units. However, you do put forth a compelling question. Ford has sold a total of 135,964 C-segment sedans since November 2005. You are definitely correct. This is the 1,00,000'th Fiesta to be produced at their plant, and not necessarily be sold in India. Their press release clearly states:

Quote:
Also, the Fiesta was the first car to be exported from Ford India's manufacturing facility as a CBU to South Africa, which established the company's capability to produce world-class vehicles for customers abroad.
Net net, 1 lakh Fiestas produced in India, of which a certain number were exported.

Sales were far more in 2006 and 2007. When I bought mine in March, 2007, the sales figure of Fiesta and Ikon was more than 4000, if I remember.

Buddy, if the SALEs figures were ~4000/month in 2006 and 2007 (~96000 units in two years) don't you think Ford should have crossed the production of 1,00,000 Fiesta long back (here exported units not even considered).

I was referring to the month I bought the Fiesta---not the entire year. You can go through Vasudeva's chart to get the actual picture.

I also recall that sometime in November 2007 that Ford had rolled out its 50000th Fiesta.

Congrats to Ford India for giving a wonderful car. Fiesta deserves to reach many more milestones.
