The Swift Petrol always had a 5K discount in Mumbai. But there were colors which were not so popular that could get more discount depending on the negotiation with the Dealer.
The DDIS has always had a large waiting period. Even more for the popular colors.

IMO MSIL should get a upgraded version of Swift in India (maybe the 1.6 being sold in UK). This could be a limited edition (a la the ZEN Carbon / Steel). A slightly souped up version can also be offered but unlike the Swift GLAM which was merely cosmetic.

For years, Maruti Swift has ruled the game with minimum waiting periods of 30-45 days even for a LXi variant. Today you can actually pickup a vehicle off the shelf (or say stock yard!) ............

This is what i had seen in our local news paper last week.

Swift diesel is still ruling the roosts because of absence of any tough competition. Only Punto and Figo seem competent enough to stand up to it. Polo and Beat diesels are a few months away and even when they are launched, they will come with 3-cylinder engines which will simply not stand up to Swift's might. And even now, both Punto and Figo just can't match the looks and pace of Swift D. That is the reason why Swift D inspite of absence of features like airbags, electric door mirrors, rear wash/defogger is trouncing all other diesel hatches. It will continue to do so unless competition ups the BHP to at least 90 to tide over invincible Swift D. Only Hyundai Getz D could show Swift D a clean pair of wheels but its successor i20 is a damp squib, all looks and no go ( compared to Swift D, that is ). Launch of Punto sport could change things a bit.

Time for a swift death ?

It's time for the Swift to die. Enough to be seen on the road, it has become another Maruti 800. Atleast this marks the beginning of false VFM as a concept. Kudos to Ford for bringing out the Figo and also to the Polo and the
Indica Vista for providing more bang for your buck.
RIP, Swift, your slow death has begun.

Dear Original poster -

My friend, you are highly mistaken. Swift Petrol NEVER had a monopoly - atleast not since mid 07 (when I started enquiring) - Not in Delhi atleast. Even ZXi was available in 20 odd days waiting in any color mind you. The diesel monopoly is the one which should be broken.

It may be your wish, but you may need to wait for another 10 years to happen. Not in any near future the Swift sales will come down drastically because of all these new launches. Vista tried but failed, i20 tried but failed, Punto tried but failed... The list goes on and on.

Here we are predicting the death of the Swift, while Maruti might be celebrating the Swift brandname being the best-selling name in India!

Dear Sankar,

many thanks for your reply.
IS the swift zdi model fast moving ? I am thinking of opting for that one now...
Is it a wise buy ? ( i have read the ownership threads in here and they are pretty convincing )

And would ZDI also carry the same discount only ?

Thanks and regards

Wise?! That's as wise as you can get. Please check variant wise discounts - at times, the discounts vary according to the models.

The rest is upto you to haggle.

As the monthly sales numbers would indicate the Swift is a fast moving car. Variant wise sales split i have no idea. With the included safety features the Z is a good buy. You have to take the wise decision based on your requirements.

Re: End of Swift-Petrol monopoly (waiting periods!)

My friend has booked a red petrol Swift vxi in Pune and was promised a delivery period of 15 days. I was surprised as to how the car could be delivered quickly in 15 days time when once it had been 3 months atleast.

Is the waiting come down so drastically or the dealer is just misinforming my friend to rake in a customer ?

Thanks.
