End of Swift-Petrol monopoly (waiting periods!)

After a really very long time, today I have seen an Maruti Ad in Times of India Hyderabad offering a Rs. 10000 discount on Swift Petrol variants. This has to happen. When Hatchbacks are being hatched by Car manufacturers at a breakneck speed with numerous options, this was invariably inevitable. For years, Maruti Swift has ruled the game with minimum waiting periods of 30-45 days even for a LXi variant. Today you can actually pickup a vehicle off the shelf (or say stock yard!)

Though Swift-Diesel has still some waiting period, it would also join the discount game as other Diesel cars like Polo, Micra, Beat, Etios are launched.

What are the options for Swift?

1. Launch new variants like Sports etc
2. New Swift with better build
3. Get into the never ending discounts game month on month similar to A-Star, Ritz etc. Though Swift will not have such a bad run, it will be somewhere in between

The game is just getting more interesting....

There needs to be a major makeover of the swift to stay in the race.. the design has seen its time and Maruti Suzuki should think of bringing in an "all-new" model in order to compete with the looks of the 2010 european and korean cars. The minor facelift will not help swift in the long term sales... although it may give a small boost.
Another reason for the slowing sales could be that most people are waiting for the new model while the dealers are trying to clear old inventory.

The Swift P never had long waiting periods anyways to start with.
It was always the DDiS.

And yet, the 10000 discount on the petrol was also more or less always on offer.
Try getting the same for the diesel They wouldnt even give you a nut free there.

Even in 2008, I picked a Swift Petrol almost within a week of booking. That was the case from then onwards. It is always the waiting period of DDiS that was testing the patience of customers not the petrol variant

In Oct 2006, we were offered Swift Vxi at Rs. 4,80,000 after approximate Rs. 40,000 discount. Too bad we didn't had that much budget. Opted for santro at Rs. 3,48,000. At that time also delivery was told 2 days of wait. We were always interested in petrol vehicle only as our running was like 10 km per day.

Dang! I am reading this just as I paid the balance amount of full MSRP about an hour ago on my Swift ZXi. However, all Pune dealers steadfastly maintain that there is no discount to be had on the Swift/Dzire either petrol or diesel.
I did get a discount, but that was too insignificant to mention.

IMO the updated looks of the swift due for launch soon(?) will probably prepel it back to the star status!

Its strange reading the replies on this thread.
I took a TD of the new 1.2 swift last week and was told that the waiting period is 8 weeks.

Shocked, I enquired about the diesel and was told that its now at 4-5 weeks waiting. What gives?

Any idea when the new Swift is expected to be launched?

Man! I bought my Swift petrol vxi, way back in 2006, when the demand was peakish, with a cash discount of Rs.5000 and also got the door handles , side mirrors painted in body colors for free. I paid cash.
So, I do have reason to believe that discounts were always there.

As far my knowledge goes, there is no cash discount on swift petrol models. What you have read is 10,000/- discount on exchange of any old car. Ask any dealer to give you even 5k discount on swift petrol he would not budge but may be would give you something in the name of accessories or corporate discount.

Even I had a Swift Vxi in 2006 for 20k off the On-road price. Got premium mats, parcel shelf and car cover too. Was a great deal back then for a Vxi. The car was immediately ready for delivery but we took it on an auspicious day. There was a huge waiting in the middle but now thats gone i guess

There is no discount on any model of Swift in Chennai. At least not with Popular, Khivraj and Cars India.
