Evaluation/Ratings of the Car dealers in India

I would like to know whether the Car dealers in India get evaluated/rated by
1) Car Manufacturers
2) Customers
3) Third party reviewers

I have never seen any car dealer displaying any kind of ratings which would make the customer comfortable in approaching the dealer. When I was in the car buying process and had almost finalized on Ford Fiesta I had written to Ford India asking them about the rating of Wasan Ford, Thane but never got any reply which kind of confirms that the manufacturers dont rate their dealers and dont review their ratings on yearly basis.
I feel every car manufacturers should keep evaluating and rating their dealers on regular basis which would given an idea to the customer and the manufacturer also about the dealer experience. We have so many threads in the BHP forum on bad dealership experience which makes or breaks a deal. BHPians please comment.

Good thread starter IMO.

I think dealer ratings will be an extremely valuable guide to the brand / dealer selection. After Sales Service is a critical component of deciding which brand to buy and rating will certainly help.

There could be downsides to this because if 2 dealers in the same cities are rated differently one can argue this will create an implicit bias against the dealer. But the counter would be that this would help the poorer rated dealer improve his services or shut down - both to the benefit of the customer.

My suspicion is also that none of the Auto mags will lead this initiative because they are "financed" by the car makers themselves (via advertising). So why do something that pits dealers against car makers.

Team BHP is the best guide today because customers talk about their dealership experience.

+1. Valid points. However not every car purchase would be accesing Team BHP forum to learn about the dealer experience. Just happened to come across this site which deals with the ratings for car dealers in US. I wish the same would have been available in India too.

Is there anything JD Power is doing on this. Or they are exclusively focusing on car makers only.

Don't trust the JD rankings. To know more, search here.
