Shouldn't it be TN21 (TC)
Both Micra and Sunny in the initial phases of testing ran MH Plates. I guess it could be because either Hover or Nissan had some office in Mumbai.

Similarly I see that the marketing and sales office of HMIL is in Delhi.

I am now guessing here, unless the car is on homologation tests it need not run the plates from the registered office.

The car sure looks different then the usual cars we are used to see. But looking at the pictures I feel even the Elantra will suffer from a claustrophobic rear seat since the seats look to be positioned quite low as compared to the window.

What about suspension, the Achilles' Heel of Hyundai? Will it be soft or balanced?

The 163 bhp engine of the Cruze from the FIAT stable was mentioned in one of the car mags kept at the GM dealership which I happened to visit last week for the 25000km service.
A link on the net is given below from another forum.

The Honda 2.2 diesel engine is from the web but here it is mentioned as sub 9 second. I shall try and up the link for the sub 8 second dash to 100kmph.

With every new hyundai car, we keep our fingers crossed and wish the handling will be neutral or balanced, but that never happens.

I can bet this will be on the softer side too. With due respect IMO Hyundai just doesnt make cars that handle well, period. Its not their USP.

re: 2012 Hyundai Elantra / Avante. EDIT: Spotted in India, Pics on Pg.3&5

This car is extremely good looking, the proportions are just fantastic. I had the fortune of see this car during my visit to Canada in August'11

The Indian market for this car would be limited compared to what they would sell worldwide, especially North America. Hence other than the diesel engine and gear box do not expect too many changes. Suspension most likely will be soft considering this is not built for India. However, being a larger car, it would in all probability handle better than the smaller Verna.

Cheers

Not necessarily! the much larger Sonata is still a large boat in terms of handling. But yes, since the Elantra is a newer generation product, we can all hope that Hyundai will take care of the only fly in the ointment in most of its products now.

Oh my dear God! The new Elantra looks absolutely stunning. In my opinion, the Elantra is the best and most beautiful interpretation of the 'Fluidic Sculpture' philosophy. I am sure it is going to succeed big time in the premium midsize segment.

Then with the sport kit it should look even better.

Thanks a ton sidindica! You made my day. For whatever reason, I have never seen the new Elantra with the sport kit till date. Leaving alone the exotics and considering my affordability, I now know which car will replace my Civic 4 years down the line.

Not much have changed in terms of handling. If you are expecting fiesta/focus type ride and handling, you will be disappointed big time. It is a typical hyundai car that feels a little uneasy at speeds above 140kmph. All the assets (read features, reliability, interior and exterior quality and looks) of sonata and verna are carried forward in elantra. It is a very good family car and just like its siblings, it does drive good in city and looks and feel awesome.

P.S: I have driven US spec version. Not the European version which we may get.

Thanks for the pics RavenAvi. The exterior design is just fabulous.

But I notice similarity of interiors with Verna. I have loved the console of Verna, and Avante seems to be too similar. The rear will be claustrophobic to some due to the higher windows. I wonder if they will address the lack of under thigh support in this car.

Re: 2012 Hyundai Elantra / Avante. EDIT: Spotted in India, Pics on Pg.3&5

Looks like the new Verna found her missing elder sibling. 'Fluidicity' is going to be Hyundai's new mantra it appears. Love the exterior designs but is that just me or other too felt the similarities in the front grills between To Be Launched Civic and Avante Interiors too look comfy and loaded with gizmos.

But in my personal opinion Avante still scores much above on the looks department. It will be interesting to see how do they price it though.
