Would be good if Hyundai launches this in India and esp with a diesel engine.

It seems they will be launching Santa Fe only this year.

As of now, from wikiedia, no details about any diesel for 5th Gen Elantra.
The petrol engine is "1.6L gasoline direct-injection engine".
BTW, Gasoline direct injection, is this something like the CGI technology in mercs?

Looks like old civic.Very good car.Size is amazing.Hope this one touch down in India as soon as possible.Could be a replacement for my verna.

Sidindica/Anyone - Any ideas on when Avante/Elantra will make it to India? It is ridiculous for Hyundai to just sit on such a fantastic car while Indian consumers make a beeline for manufacturers that have no capacity/ability to delivery on volumes.

Appears a worthy car, even if it looks like it is Civic inspired. Should do better than it's predecessor in India, of course pricing will play a part but Hyundai is by and large pretty sensible about pricing and have mostly VFM products.

In the US the key marketing point for Elantra/Avante currently is it's phenomenally fuel efficient engine and I'm sure India will love that aspect too!

I too am waiting for hyundai to launch this car as an upgrade to my verna. maybe they will launch it before sonata as they dont have anything in between sonata and verna.

@xpk No the "new hyundai sonata" is a different vehicle altogether,and is placed a segment above the elantra.Cant blame you hyundai cars suddenly all look the same these days!

First one is the sonata,second one is the elantra.

The new Sonata, the Elantra and the new Verna share some similar design cues. I am surprised why some of you guys here say it resembles the Civic.

But anyway, the interiors is one of the best in the segment and Hyundai started in India with simple cars, but is now going the other way by bringing better cars to India and launching some exciting models as well. I hope the new Tiburon would also make it some day

It would be really sad if Hyunda were to go by the past experience of Elantra and decide not to bring in the 2011 model.

The 2011 model with a nice diesel, tiptronic auto transmission - winner! I would sell my Civic on the day of the launch and go buy the Elantra. Really wish Hyundai can pull up their act and get around to launching the new elantra with the tip tronic transmission and a diesel powerplant

Hey, one can see the transformation from RBi (verna), elantra and sonata.

Or perhaps, hyundai designed Sonata and Verna first, then derived Elantra by mixing some thing here and there.

The Elantra IMHO looks better than the Sonata and the new Solaris/Verna. The same goes for the interiors. Looks amazing! Should make a good car but unlike everybody says, price will not be low. With the new Verna expected to retail at 11-12 for the top end variant, the new Elantra could very well rub shoulders with the Civic and Corolla. However, this time though, Hyundai have a car that can take the fight to the competition, if people look over the badge
