Is this the first time that 2 different trims of a car have different length, height, tire, dashboard, engine, external - but still sell side by side under the same name badge?

+1, IIRC even the Micra dosent offer Alloys. Why Blame Maruti Only.

What do you mean? The LXi & VXi are different only in equipment which is the case with all variants.

Also I am not sure if you mean to say that both K10 & old Alto will co-exist. I am not sure that would be the case.

Maruti must really be crazy if the above statement is true. Check out this thread. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...d-version.html. Maruti is already selling the Old LPG Wagan R. Why would they do that? Why cant they take their time and replace all variants in a model?

If they would have varied in equipment only, it would have been ok.
But they look different, have different engines, have different tire size , have different length/breadth/height, have different steering + dash and bigger rear legroom.

Sorry to disagree - but this justified a new name - even 'Alto K10' badging would have been a saving grace.

Its like selling the indica and vista under the indica name, or santro and i10 under the santro name side by side!

They will co exist. The Alto Std and Lx will be powered by the F8D motor. These two will be the same old model. The current Lxi and the Vxi will be the new model with the K10B motor.

Zigwheels editor says "Ah, the fun to drive term is a much abused one but the Alto K10 gives true meaning to this phrase in its class" on driving the Alto K10.

Length's increased by almost 5", wonder what the increase in wheelbase is ?
Height's increased by just 5 mm, curious to know the tire profile.
Width remains the same.

Lxi - 3.03 lacs
Vxi - 3.16 lacs
