i think alto very much deserves a powerful engine. the road stability and the drivability of my 2004 alto are the hidden qualities which are always doubted by my friends unless and until they experience the 140+ speeds.

When i cover my speedo and take them on the expressway and ask them to guess the speed they always quote 110-120, when i reveal them the actual speed they are just astonished.

its a very stable car, haunted with the worst of 800 cc engine which kills its pick up and with AC on you feel its a 200 cc engine.

May be its going to be very soft launch else even those few who buy A-Star would run towards Alto!! Many Astar owners may bang their heads, if maruti launched Alto KSeries at same existing prices

I have just visited ABT Maruti show room during lunch time and enquired with a sales person. He says there is no news about it so far, in fact he was hearing about it for the first time from me!

It is really good that it will have a 4 cylinder arrangement. The 3 cylinder one has lots of vibrations. 4 will counter balance one another. good going.

Spyshots from Carwale

Courtesy Carwale, following are the first pics of the new Alto. No front pic though.

What has changed:
Rear: New tailgate, tail lamps, bumper. Tailgate now sports the numberplate slot instead of the bumper in the previous version.

Front: More shapely headlights which echo the tail lamp design theme as well as a new grill, bonnet and bumper.

Wonderful and the price is going to be 2.4xL (onwards). A wonderful pricing point for the new Alto.

From the pics, it seems to have 13 inch wheels instead of 12 inch wheels on the current one.

They should atleast have the power windows at both front and back, defogger and rear wash wipe. If wishes were horses

The KB10 engine which the new Alto will support is 3 cylinder and not 4 cylinder.

Any likely date of launch ??? Or I suppose they would launch it on 15th August Independence Day !!!

From where did you get the prices ? Also, I hope 2.4 is on-road.

While good to have, these would drive up the prices to next segment. I would rather they give the engine, good driveability, decent a/c and option for ABS and airbags. For those that drive with a/c always, the only times PW is used is at toll-gates or to ask for directions - no big deal. Defogger and rear-wash/wipe is useful though.

dude, carwale says there are talks that the entry point might be 2.25L. I am sure it is ex-showroom. on-road would be close to 2.8L in TN for the entry level varient. Maruti should aim at giving PS on all varients similar to the BEAT.

Somehow I don't really like the new rear design, looks very dated and cheap.

So finally Maruti Suzuki woke up after several years to realise that the present model is outdated and needed a major facelift. Good on its part. From the pics one can see some major changes related to the rear hatch including the new tail lights, bumper, glued rear windscreen, high mount stop lamp et al. The ORVMs also look to be internally adjustable.

Oops!!! I meant that as 3.4 onroad. Rationale being that AltoLxi(800cc) is 3.1 onroad today. So a new Vxi (1000cc) with re-design, some features thrown in would be another 30K max. Sorry about the typo of 2.4.

I am confused now. Is it not just a new Vxi that is coming since you say entry-level variant, entry-point of 2.25L etc ? Are they revamping the whole Alto range with this new look car and with new engine ? That does not sound bad either.
