Autoblog has reported the front view (brochure cover) of the new alto. The image says mileage of 20.2 km/l. That's a very good number.

The new Alto should be called Maruti Alto 20.2 and the old one called 22.2. Seriously who cares about the engine spec. Calling it 20.2 will be convenient for prospective owners to avoid questions of "average kya hai?" and can then point to the name badge.

Source: Maruti Alto K10 technical specifications, features, variants and colours | Vicky.in | Indian Automobile Blog | Car Reviews | Bike Reviews | Test Drive Reports | Pictures | Videos

"Maruti’s much awaited powerful Alto called “Alto K10″ will be launched in August. but before that know the specifications, features, variants, colours and everything you want to know about the Alto K10. To cater to the customers who want no compromise on performance, style, features, style and attitude in the entry level car segment. Maruti believes Alto K10 will redefine the segment as Swift did in the premium hatch segment.

Engine and Transmission

Maruti Alto K10 is built on the same platform the existing alto (called Alto F8). There are not much mechanical changes except for the retuning of suspension and booster assisted braking system. The new stuff is the all new K10 engine which Maruti already uses in A-star, Estilo and Wagon-R. The K-series under the hood of Alto K10 produces 68PS of maximum power at 6200rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500rpm. Remember, these figures are astonishing when compared to current alto which generates just 47PS of peak power. On the other side, Alto k10 has gained just 50kgs because of the new engine. Result, Alto K10 reaches 100kmphs in 13.3 seconds as opposed to 17.3 seconds by alto.

Even though the power ratings have improved, Maruti claims the Alto K10 returns a mileage of 20.3Kmpl under standard conditions which is marginally better than the current alto. Like the new Wagon-R, Maruti Alto k10 also gets the new cable type transmission for smoother gear shifts

Exteriors

Maruti Alto k10 is 125mm longer to accommodate the K10 engine. The front fascia is different with a dynamic hood, eagle eyed clear lens headlamps and body coloured bumper. Alto k10 also gets swanky fog lamps. The side profile remains largely unchanged except for the 13″ inch wheels and body side mouldings.Alto k10 also gets nice looking wheel covers. The rear gets a new designed back door and fresh tail lamps.

Interiors

Those who bothered about utilitarian Alto interiors can now rejoice. Alto k10 gets two tone interiors with lot of usable features and design elements. The decade old two spoke steering wheel is replaced with three spoke wheel. Maruti has borrowed the 3-spoke steering wheel from the A-star. Integrated headrest for front and rear passengers is a radical change. The instrument panel is refreshed with amber illuminated speedometer, tachometer and an electronic trip-meter.

Features

Alto K10 comes with long list of much needed features like power steering, internally adjustable ORVM, key reminder, remote boot opener (reminds you if you left the key in the lock itself), central locking, power windows, rear parcel tray, accessory socket, remote fuel lid opener and electronic trip meter

Colours

Alto K10 will be available in six colours – ecru beige, midnight black, fire brick red, blue blaze, silky silver and superior white.

Maruti will launch the Alto K10 in the first week of August. Maruti plans to sell the current alto with the new Alto K10 and believes the dual-model will further boost the sales numbers. Expect the pricing of Alto K10 to be very competitive."

IF all these come at a starting price of 2.8L ex-showroom as posted by some one else, it will surely be a super hit, but will eat into WR and Estilo's pie.

MS is trying to do the i10 trick by selling both 800cc engine and K10B. I am sure it would workout. The price difference as I see would be close to 20-25K. But i doubt if the new alto would cut into Wagon R & Estilo's pie since the latter models are tall boy designs.

@romeomidhun, thanks for the details. If all that turns out to be true, it would be awesome. 68ps and 0-100 of 13.3. Wow!!! Can't wait for August.

If the figures quoted by vicky.in are correct, the new Alto will be one of the fastest hatches in town. %But i would like to see at what cost. The A* is already running discounts of approx 30-35k and i think the K10 Alto VXI with all those features,if true, might be selling around 3.2 ex showroom. MS is definitely taking the fight to the Chevy Spark. Also i hope they do make the new car fun to drive. Will be an excellent fast, cheap and reliable pocket rocket. The right car for the old zen enthusiasts??

3.2 ex-showroom means around 3.65 on-road Chennai. IMO this is too high - should be within 3.5lakhs OTR at most (given that Alto800 is 3.1 on-road).

3.5L cuts into Chevy spark. Please would be inclided to buy the BEAT as it is just another 20-25K more. IMO, it should be 3.2L - 3.25L at the max.

I just don't understand the logic, if Maruti tries to fight with Spark, because, Spark sells just 3-4k monthly.

What Maruti should try to do is to prepare one product to compete with i10, as i10 sells 12K monthly. There I find the space for Suzuki Cervo, equipped with the following:
a) G-12 (from Eeco) priced between 3L and 3.5L (to compete with i10 1.1)
b) K-12 engine priced between 3.5L and 4.2L (to compete with i10 1.2)

These 2 excellent engines have the capacity to fight any hatch in India now, IMO.

there is no competition between the Alto & the Spark. This model could be a killing blow to the Spark, if priced right. But, more importantly, for Suzuki, it will be the cheese (not bread) winner, i.e. maximum units sold for the same engine (WagonR - 10K; Estilo - 5K; A* - 3K; & there will be some units sold for this one as well) which makes the number of units of this engine around the mark where Alto 800CC generally sells. This means little under 40k units for he 800 & 1000cc small cars only... impressive isn't it.

I think they should seriously consider Alto based on the new 2010 WagonR platform. May be based on what response they get to the Alto K10 they will bring it on next year.

I think by launching the Alto in the KB10 avtar, Maruti has accepted that the A Star is a failure, because I see the car cannibalizing directly the A Star in their stable.

The car seems to have great specs, with the highest 0-100 specs its demand is sure to go sky high.
At the end of the day all MS wanted to have was some waiting time attached even to the belowed Alto. That is the only thing thats going to change post launch. Mending an off the shelf Alto into a waiting list product
