Scene 1:
You walk into your car parked in the hot sun. Keep the bag you were carrying on the passenger seat and lower the windows just to get some air.

Scene 2: (Option 1)
Someone walks up to your driver side window and engages you in a conversation on probably how to reach some place. You try helping him out with directions. He thanks you and walk away. You turn back to find the bag you kept on the passenger seat missing!!

Scene 2: (Option 2)
Someone calls out your attention to some change (money) lying just under the drivers door. You get out to pick it up thinking it fell from your pocket while getting in. But when you get back in the car. The bag you kept on the passenger seat is gone!!

Scene 2: (Option 3)
Just as you are about to turn on the ignition someone calls out to you that there is some oil dripping from your car. You get out. Go to the front and do find oil dripping under the bumper. As a natural reaction you open the bonnet and spend a few minutes trying to figure out what it is. It takes some time for you to realise that the oil is not coming from anywhere inside the engine and so you walk back into the car. And the bag you kept at the drivers seat is just not there any more.!!

Scene 2: (Option 4)
You start your car and slot into reverse so that you can get out of the parking slot. You see a large paper blocking your view. You think its some advertisement pamphlet and you get out of the car mumbling words about the person who put it there. The paper is just thrown away angrily and you get back into the car. And the bag? What bag!!

Scene 2 is being played out in various forms across the country. My father in law just did a role in Option 3 above.

Here is a call to all T-BHpians to change the script of "Scene 1" so as to avoid Scene 2 from leaving us with trouble. Also What should be "Scene 3" if at all you get a role in any version of "Scene 2". What should we do to avoid it from happening and what should we do immediately if we go through something like this.

There's already a thread running on this - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning...-theft-10.html

In addition to what aargee posted, the simples solution is:
- Put the bag in the trunk.
Such a scenario used to happen earlier, and since then, everything is always put in the trunk. I follow this even in the U.S. If not the trunk, you can put stuff in the backseat as well, in the footwell between the front and rear seat.

I agree. I carry my laptop bag to office everyday, and it always goes in the trunk.

I guess after Scene 1, it's best to lock the car, so you are protected if it's Scene 2 - Option 1. And even if you have to get out of the car for any of the other options, the best is to lock the car and get out.

I personally have a habit to lock the car once I sit inside, since my son who is still a toddler travels with many times.

Ps: I hope your father is law played the role of the victim in Scene 2 - Option 3:D
