  • Tata should be worried. The once Diesel VFM Cars King is facing some serious challenge from MS and Ford.
  • In the 3L-10L Cars segment Maruti Suzuki outsells it's closest competitor by a whopping 30+%. Outstanding performance. Competitors must be to get a share of this.

Hardly agreeable. Since Figo volumes consists of both petrol and diesel and looks like with reviews and feedbacks on the forum looks like more than 60% of the sales is diesel. this wouldn't affect beat, but maybe punto. Ideally it would hit Swift Diesel numbers with that.

I think Beat numbers are hit by new WagonR in the month of may.

Not to forget, New WagonR and Beat along with i10 are the tall boy design, they start in the same pricing range and come with single Engine - Petrol, so these are perfect substitute to each other.

The Skoda Superb is selling more cars than all the others in its segment put together! I think it is well-deserved.

Low sales of beat could be attributed to the lack of diesel option in chevy beat. GM was pretty skeptical about the beat success & they launched only the petrol. Later when the sales picked up they should have launched the diesel in shorter time frame to capture the market.

Ford did very well by launching both the P & D option.. I have absolutely fell in love with the figo look, it is raining figos here in chennai..

Fiat Palio - Has FIAT sold them with the huge discounts they offered lately..

Verna outsells by a whisker thanks to the diesel. Infact atleast 70% of Verna sales is of the diesel. SX4s sales have improved since its vvtisation. Infact it is the 2nd largest selling in that segment after ANHC outselling all other petrol versions like Fiesta, verna, Linea by a good margin. It will be interesting to see the figures post the launch of the diesel version.

Even the worst seller (A Star) from Maruti is equal in numbers to the best seller (Spark) from GM!

Octavia and Getz have been phased out after B-IV norms. But how Palio is up there? I thought it was stopped some time back.

I think Figo and Polo sales would continue upwards from current levels.

Thanks buddy for the data. I would be happy to see the split sales data for petrol and diesel cars of models like - Swift, Ritz, i20 and Figo. Could you kindly source that?

Few observations -

1. Maruti Alto - sold an all time high of 25340 units

2. Same true for Maruti Swift too with 12760 units

3. On the other hand in hatch back cars - 3 models showed a downward trend - Beat (2296) - sold all time low since launch, Spark (2812) - first time since Aug'09 sold below 3000 units, and the Jazz (205) - an all time low. May be Honda should seriously think and strategize it's marketing plans.

4. As a manufacturer - Honda should also reviewed it's product lines and pricing. None of the Honda products comes close to the market leader in the respective segments -

a. Jazz (205) - Leader Swift (12760)
b. City (3121) - Leader Dzire (9335)
c. Civic (533) - Leader Cruze (854)
d. Accord (173) - Leader Jetta (347)
e. CR-V (35) - Leader Fortuner (969)

5. Three surprises this month -

a. Maruti Gypsy sold 964 units - highest since Jan 2009
b. The old Palio managed to sell 30 units - the highest number/month since Aug 2009.
c. The good old Ambassador (602) sold more units than more modern - Palio, Jazz, Fabia, Ikon, Aveo, Logan and Indigo Marina. May be thanks should go to Govt. Babus or Kolkata Taxiwala to keep the India's oldest car alive.

6. The VW Phaeton - opened the score with 2 units this month

7. One car that showed a increase in sales number is Hyundai i20 (see the attached graph). Impressive indeed.
