What do you mean? Other than Tata & Maruti who else sells products custom made for India?
And how is it relevant?

All the products these automakers sell are global products with very less localization in india. That also affects the selling price(120% duty). Products like Figo, Beat are designed for markets like India. Only when Honda or Toyota can design hatchbacks like that can they compete in India. If I go by the news reports, they are headed in that direction. I am only talking about the hatchback segment here which is very price competitive. Entry level sedan segment will be the same in few years.

Again I not saying this to defend Honda. Just analyzing the facts.

Mostly right, but not completely, mind you I am nitpicking. The Beat was not strictly made for "markets like" India, GM planned to launch it in Europe as well. Spot on about the Figo, although it is similar to the Fiesta sold in Europe (previous generation), they customized and localized the car for India.

A good example is the i20 and Punto. Both heavily localized, but in general made for the world (I understand that the Punto is not exported from here), hence they do not have the 120% duty (or high duty).

Honda City isn't sold in Europe & USA, I think. It's sold only in developing countries. I thought that City was fully built in India - so why should it face any more duty than what other cars face?

I think originally the parts were from Honda Thailand. What is the current status?

now everyone wants to drive an SUV in the crowded Indian roads..
they think that will help them send out the message "don't mess with me, and give me my way"

off late there has been a considerable increase in the number of SUVs on city roads. Even women drivers are taking to SUVs in a bigway.
with SUVs becoming cheaper and cheaper(eg:Rio, Rhino) wonder what will happen after 5 years.
Guess City administrators will be pressed to issue a ban on SUVs measuring more than 4300mm to ply on city roads..afterall SUVs were meant to be offroaders right?

Er...when has Maruti ever made a custom product for India? They sell the same old cramped hand-me-down products from east asian markets.

And by custom I dont mean stripping down a product for India, or adding stickering.

Also Hyundai seems to be moving to be moving an awesome amount of i20s. Its surprising that the Diesel version sells more than the P version. Quite an achievement considering no discounts and the exorbitant pricing.

Thanks for the information Karp, for some reason I am seeing the ratio of the Petrol to diesel for all Swift, Ritz and Figo as 45:55.

Looks like there is some kind of trend in here. But still not sure how come all are accuratly the same ratio for all the month.

On revelation I have got is abt the i20, I was thinking all this while the Diesel i20 sold more than Petrol. But the ratio between petrol : Diesel is around 86 : 14

Thanks, karpusv. Do you have similar P/D splits for Linea and Punto?
