Special editions were the specialty of the Americans (Opel, Chevy, Ford). The Japs rarely saw value in releasing a so-called "special edition" for the heck of it. Atleast not one that merely had a bunch of extra stickers as the differentiating point.

A Skoda RS special edition? Sure. More features at the same price, as a limited edition? You bet.

But body graphics making a special-ed = :Frustrati:Frustrati

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Launches ‘Special Edition’ of Innova

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. today announced the introduction of the ‘Innova Special Edition’ to commemorate five successful years of the Innova in India. The Innova Special Edition will be on sale for a limited period, i.e. June to September 2010. Only 700 units of the Innova Special Edition will be available for sale, for a limited
period."

This ‘Special Edition’ of Innova does not even have wheel caps !

I agree that special editions should have better engines or some performance mods or atleast something special , different not a mere stickering job .
A lot of manufacturers in India love doing these special editions once in a while .

There is no Real competition to the Innova! Why then this gimmick?
Good price though, but without alloys?

Target market Travel & Tour walas ? Leave aside alloys, they haven't even bothered to put on wheel caps.

So, its the basic E model with all that fully faltoo fulthok graphics.Tireless Overrated Yawnmobile Or Tedious Appliance.

Yup absolutely. Thats why it is only available in White unlike the qualis. I remember they took out a SE Qualis in Black.

Primary audience is the travel market! a down market special edition! and I am sure a note says with a * in the ad, accessories shown are not a part of standard fitment or something to that order.

only 700 in number is quiet contradictory to the attracting the travel market though!

Basically the entry variant with black bumpers now gets body colored bumpers with power windows and central locking. No mention of Power Steering, though. Forget the rest, the Power Steering should have been the most basic of additions.

I have noticed that Toyota is one Japanese company that comes out with special editions. However, unlike many other manufacturers where the special edition is based on the top of the line model, Toyota jazzes up a regular edition with some essential goodies.

The Qualis had many special editions, and IIRC, only one of them was based on the top of the line variant. Nice way to move them off the shelf quickly, while giving a regular buyer options he wants at a lower price. After all, there are only a few people who can afford the top of the line variants, with many more buying the E and G variants.

Benny - Didn't the E variant of the Innova Diesel come with PS as standard?

Ha. They got to be kidding us. Yes, it is special in a retarded kind of way.

Do they think people are fools, that they get a car thats special just because a sticker says so. And atleast put some wheel caps on it. Else, dont call it a special ed, instead maybe a recession edition or Aam edition or Xylo Killer or whatever.

And what is a hood mould?

agree: with benny and others. Just looks like sticker job, atleast power steering and wheel caps if not alloys.

Special edition= Marketing gimmick, but in our market it works ! Even if the special in reality is "unspecial"

Toyota had got only one good special edition back in the day, the Qualis Anniversary Edition. We picked up one and it defiantly did feel a whole lot special in comparison to our regular Qualis. The interiors were more plush and the exteriors look so much better in black with good alloys thrown in as a part of the package.

Although this ones seems more for taxi/tour operators

This one actually seems more the the private buyer on a budget rather than the Taxi market. The number 700 and the spec's seem to indicate this inspite of the colour white.

yeah i agree with Anniversary Edition, it does stand out of the crowd. it has a different feeling and look both interior and some exterior very much cosmetic.

The specs on the site for the Innova mentions PS to be optional, even on the diesel E variant.
