Sreeram,

Do not buy either. In Bangalore you need the Reva. How will park such monsters in the free parking era?

I considered these vehicles and settled for Innova(Diesel). Should get delivery this weekend.

My reasons:

1. Toyota Quality
2. Ride - Silky smooth, highly refined, long life engine.
3. Mileage (better than scorpio)
4. Interiors
5. Safety
6. Resale value

The only area scorpio scored over innova was looks. I am too old to bother about such things..

Go for the Scorpio man. I think its got more road presence than the Innova.

now this itself should simplify things for you - go for the innova; it seems like you want a spacious family car that's good to drive and would weather well, while giving you peace of mind and decent fuel efficiency.

although not much to separate the two; the scorpio is more powerful, and is a peppier car, whereas the innova makes up with it's (yet to be proven here) reliability and quality. also, the innova has much better interiors..

i would recommend the innova, without doubt...go for it...

i would say innova is a better option. the last seat is also comfi when compaired with scorpio. better power and very smooth. i touched 140 wit full load(8ppl). u can feel the power with that load. i felt the breaks were also good.

There is one thing that really bothers me about Scorpio ... Inner Space !

It is really cramped , something that you dont expect from a vehicle of that size.

That said , I am no great fan of Innova either though it does seem to be the more practical option.

Keep it simple ... buy the Scorpio if road presence and looks figure high on your list ..but as far I uderstand from what you have written, they dont.

You also seem to be inclined towards a third car .... so maybe we need to discuss that option as well ...

you answered your own questions.

Innova is expensive and van like in shape. Toyota quality is best though but I wouldnt pay a premium for it.(those drat people sold 10year old qualis and we Indian bought it happily )

safari looks better and is the most comfortable vehicle around.

scorpio is about to get a replacement and the mahindra engineers have confirmed that the handling problem is a top most priority.

settle for the safari DICOR

Questions to all Scorpio Fans and owners??

1> How many kmpl does the Scorpio CRDE give vis-a-vis the Scorpio Turbo Diesel??
2> How many horses does the Scorpio CRDE have vis-a-vis the Earlier model??
3> Do you think that maintenance cost of the Scorpio CRDE has gone southwards?? If so why do you think so??

I would appreciate the inputs..

Regards,

SCORPIO CRDe

cons -

reliability pathetic ..
on road emergency service .. pathetic
maintainence cost - high
FE - 9-10kmpl city
gear throw - you'd need the reach of giant gonzalez (7 foot wrestler)
ergonomics - poor very poor
back seat leg space = indica back seat leg space
ride comfort - very bouncy
safety - no one has any idea !but they do have seat belts ..
speedo dials - MPH .. for what joy i ask ?

pro's -
Good a/c
torquey engine
fairly cheap

review source - my friend (owner) and me ..
2005 june model -
already failed the clutch twice ..stranded 5 drunk people 2 am in the morning..
FE before run in - 7-8kmpl
FE after 100km - 9-10 kmpl
now up for sale ...

Personally I feel the basic comparison is at error. I am sure both are competitors but are for really different types of people and appeal to different groups altogether. Buy what you would like to be seen around driving.

Cars generally are an extension of your own personality. Like we wear clothes that we think suit us, so should happen while buying cars which are so different in character.

Regards,
@man23ish i can asnwer the first question as one my friend is having a turbo diesel and my cousin is having CRDe and the turbo gives around 11 with a/c in city condition and the CRDe gives around 11.5 with a/c in city and the difference is not much. But in refinement the CRDe is really better as i have driven both of them apart from that i did not find any difference. Maintainance wise i cant say as his CRDe has done only 6k Kms but the maintainance for the turbo is also not very much.

Though i am a big supporter of TATA, I say that unless you are planning a mud fest or drive in bangalore innova is better. Bt then its costlier too. On interiors, driver comfort, performance and handling innova wins hands down. On ride quality, looks and appeal it loses.

I am going to take the long weekend opportunity to do further test drive and make the decision. Of course I am a little more prejudiced now

Thanks for your opinions/comments. Will keep you guys posted.

well Tata gives more options and its Indian car and it hass ABS and Airbags.

The comfort is the best among all.

you can certainly live with some knickknacks. ask Steeroid and he will give you a proper info on the Dicor.

Innova is still a van and lacks the SUV character
