As long as the price points are correct, it will definitely get a great opening a la Figo. Whether it will continue to do well is a different question but expect a great opening if the pricing is correct.

IMO, the car looks just too ugly to sell in significant numbers!

My guess is that it is not a shortened Xylo. It might be a whole new Compact SUV from Mahindra and the test vehicle might have been disguised by picking body panels from Xylo. I guess there is some other thread discussing compact SUV from Mahindra.

I am completely with you on this one. More often than not, manufacturers tend to do this. VW took this to the next level with the decoy ford looks.

Though you think your remark may be funny, I would not be surprised if that was the thought that occurred to some wise guy in Mahindra's marketing department and would have been discussed at some board meeting which led to this unspeakable-of vehicle (at least in the looks department). The black rendering is kind of bearable and might sell well.

Premier Rios are selling 25-30 a month per state. That's all that probably took to set someone in Mahindra thinking. Only yesterday I put in some fresh details I heard from a Premier dealer in Bangalore in the Premier Rio thread and today this comes up. I cannot but link the two together. They actually look kind of the same (at least the photoshop rendering does!) Check that thread out for the details. Yesterday, nobody even clicked on it!

Disclaimer:All,Above is strictly a conspiracy theory !

huh!!! I guess it works to be ugly in India...see WagonR & Dezire; even our current Xylo is quite a sad looking car. I see no reason why this car cant work if they decide to at least take care about a lil bit of height-width balance. The rule says about length but they will have to reshuffle the height-width balance if this car has to be stable at higher speeds.

+1 I too feel the same now. Just the way VW disguised their Vento with the skin of a Ford Focus, mahindra too might be doing the same but then is the W101 ready already? They might just be testing the running gear. Who knows

According to earlier reports, Mahindra compact SUV was supposed to have monocoque construction to keep the weight low, just like in the upcoming world SUV. Are these two separate projects - one deriving from Xylo and the other from world SUV?

It will surely come in direct competition with WagonR due to its styling and i am sure in the pricing too.
M&M is surely entering in all segments with serious thoughts.

Competition for Toyota Avanza?
What if this vehicle isn't headed for Indian market?

Shortened ladder chasis? May not be the case. It could certainly be a different vehicle with new monocoque construction as pointed out by directinjection.

Like the concept!

I really think this is a cool idea. We all liked the idea of a Premier Rio but hated the fact that it was chinese and made by Premier. Now the xylo cs on the other hand will be a pretty reliable car, decently finished, acceptable ***, nice engine etc. Looks like we may finally have a new segment created.
