re: Mahindra Testing sub-4 meter XYLO. EDIT : Fresh PICS on Page 38

Last year in September I came across the Genio under cover on Nashik highway somewhere near shahapur.

Yesterday saw 2 white genio with temp number plates at Katai naka Toll on Sheel-kalyan road. Could have taken snaps but I was driving and thought that its actually an old story.

New scoop shots at 2011 Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV Scooped: First on ICB! | Indian Cars & Motorcycles Blog

From one of the images it is clear that the vehicle is having quarter glass on rear sides. Wheels seem to be disproprtionately small to vehicle size.

I may be mistaken but I seem to remember there was some talk about making a slightly smaller size Scorpio? maybe a pure 5 seater plus luggage with smaller proportions? any news?

The latest I heard from a Senior Technician at the A$$ is that the mini-Xylo, the W201 and a new version of Reva are all in final stages of testing - should be out by May 2011. Nothing on a mini-Scorpio - have never heard that before.

check this link - some info on a possible mini scorpio
Report – Mahindra to build a compact SUV based on Scorpio | Indian Autos blog

plus sometime ago i think I read a comment in an interview with some newspaper or magazine by Dr Goenka about how they intend to leverage the Scorpio platform and build a smaller version - but I am not completely sure where or when this was.

Mahindra is trying to do a Wagon-r but with a xylo face and a tall boy design together with those small tyres the entire car will look disproportionate.

In the original pic, is it me or is the rear right tyre actually smaller than the front right!?

If 'tyred' right, this could actually look good!

Is Mahindra planning to build the best "boat" ?? I am way too skeptical about the handling of this car - If they retail the height with shorter wheelbase / body, I have no idea how this will fare with respect to the handling!!

Edit: @Ashutoshb, Now that adds some character to the car !! Good One ! Add a rear spoiler + roof rails, am sure it will have the killer looks from rear atleast - not sure of the front though, should not make much difference to my [the most common] current opinions.

Honestly, in the last couple of snaps, the mini-Xylo doen't really look as tall as the regular Xylo. I feel they have lowered the suspension enough and that should also do a world of good to its cg and stability. If you see the tires they seem to fill the well adequately - not like it is in the photo where the mini-Xylo is on the truck

re: Mahindra Testing sub-4 meter XYLO. EDIT : Fresh PICS on Page 38

Few things I observed

1. The tire config looks good, but whats the suspension setup
2. Taking the 5th tyre out will provide quite a bit of space, but what about little tyre hump jutting out in your rearview
3. Rear hatch is sideways opening rather than pull-up
4. With a roof rack, rear can fit 2 5-6 yr olds
5. While I couldn't click a pic it handled fairly well on the way up with snow on ground

If the spare wheel is fitted at the back, wouldn't it increase the "on paper" length of the car? AFAIK, it is mandatory for all passenger vehicles to provide a spare wheel, and not just a provision for it.
If M&M tries to keep the whole length (including the spare wheel) below 4 meters to get into lesser tax bracket (engine is less than 1500 cc anyway), we probably can expect a cramped backseat.

I don't think that is the case. A lot of high end cars do not have spare wheels or smaller wheels

OT: A lot of 2 wheelers who earlier used to have 3 wheels (2 normal and 1 stepney), now have only 2 wheels. Eg: Scooters!
