From the Spy pics,
It looks that its Rear set of Wheels lie at the same place as in Regular Xylo, Only difference seems to be the Smaller size of wheels & Highly chopped down Rear Overhang, leading to its Sub-4 metre length. Similarly due to adoption of relatively smaller Wheels, I'm expecting relatively lesser Body height too.

IMHO, even If Mahindra would've scaled down its dimensions proportionately, they're having a dynamically active & sound winner on their hands, afterall they're not Running these test mules regularly only for Show-off purposes only.
Definitely they'll be having something Interesting on their minds.
C'mon Mahindra whole India is Anticipating now.

re: Mahindra Testing sub-4 meter XYLO. EDIT : Fresh PICS on Page 38

In today's (26 Dec) interview on Bloomberg UTV, Pawan Goenka categorically said the following:

1. Several variants of the Xylo will be launched in the first 6-9 months of 2012.
2. The first vehicle from the Ssangyong stable will be launched in Apr-May-June 2012.

re: Mahindra Testing sub-4 meter XYLO. EDIT : Fresh PICS on Page 38

Hi Bhpian,

On my way to ooty on new years eve,we spotted 2 test mules of the Mini Xylo near mettupalayam. They were taking a break. The car seemed Production ready from the Inside. Sorry I couldn't click pictures of the interiors.

The test team was friendly as we had gone in a customized Scorpio - yes, we had a Vlx - Automatic, 4 WD with ABS & Airbags . One of the techies told us that they were doing the final rounds of the High Altitude test. I asked him if it would be launched at the EXPO and he said NO.

Seeing the car in muscles, the wheels are a tad small for suv standards and it naturally spoils the stance. Like all, I am also eagerly awaiting a surprise from Mahindra.

Happy new year to all.Cheers & Happy Motoring.

Did you find third row seats? Were they side facing or front facing?

They are side facing and best suitable for children. They seemed very small and something like on a tata safari.

A friend of mine spotted the same vehicles in the Ooty road, during the new year's eve. Here are the photos clicked by him.

A friend told me that that the mini xylo will come with a 1.5 ltr, twin-turbo, 120 bhp diesel engine.

A 120 bhp engine would be awesome!

There were reports that the XUV will have a twin turbo some time down the line. But on a car where they designed to extract the max benefits for pricing aggressively - fingers crossed.

Again I have reservations on whether the vehicle is dynamically good to have all those power. Hope they have sorted out the body roll and ride part well.

Highly unlikely Raj as doing so will take outside of excise benefits . Also Mini-xylo in my opinion is being launched as a practical , reliable cheap to run mini MUV and not as a tarmac scorcher. Pricing is going to be a key attribute and Mahindra i am sure is doing everything possible to keep the price under check.

How?

As per the government's rule, four-wheelers which fall under sub-four meter category & sporting petrol engines not exceeding cubic capacity of 1.2 litres, and diesel engines not exceeding cubic capacity of 1.5 litres attract only 10 per cent excise duty as against a whopping 22 per cent.

Looking more and more like a oversized WagonR with a wheel on the rear hatch.

My bad.. i did a oversight on the 1.5 litre part. But anyways a twin turbo motor is going to escalate the costs way too much to price them competetively.

Wow these mini-Xylos are showing up everywhere !
My brother saw one on the airport road this morning ( around hebbal flyover ). Complete with black cloth camouflage, dark greenish paint and spare wheel on the trunk. Interiors according to him seemed pretty much the same, including the hump above the centre console.
Excited to see how they plan on marketing this vehicle.
