Looks like maruti is creating competition among themselves by introducing more and more small cars in the market?

Anyone else noticed that the front grille in the third picture is very Tata-ish?

Probably Suzuki isn't confident of selling the Alto with the 1L K-series motor in the same numbers as earlier. Moreover, they need a good replacement for the A-Star, which can garner the numbers for the company unlike the A-Star which sells around 2.5K units pm.
Probably the Alto will remain BS3 & will sold on all other cities & the new car that will be on a premium will be sold in the cities where BS4 regulations are in force.

Gone are those days when Maruti used to think twice before introducing same priced cars. Now that consumers have soo many options from other Brands, if Maruti dont provide different looks and option, consumers will look for other brands. This is good move from Maruti.

And all the diesels with the 1.3 MJD engine.

But who's complaining anyway?

For your information The current Alto has been upgraded to BS4.

This car will be Alto with KB10 engine, it came in Economic Times as well, they will do some facelift but not sure if the look is going to be the one in page 1.

I have also read & posted about the same... but, where is the car. The BS4 Alto with old 800cc engine had some fuel pump issue, & we have only heard in air about the 1L K-series Alto. There are no concrete details about the Alto we are referring to. Further, the pricing is crucial for Alto as many forum members have posted elsewhere. This explains my post.

Otherwise, I have no faith in the news channels especially regarding the Auto News/ Reviews, as one of the business news channels (one with the more reliability) had run small news items that thay are going to launch Nano competitor soon.

A K10B run Alto would be great! It is a fun mill to run. I wonder though, if Maruti would like to mess with the perfect formula that the Alto is.
Read carefully, I have quoted source as CNBC. I have informed what I heard, rest is upto people to believe it or not.

Given the price range it should be the upgraded Alto with the K10B motor. There will be some redesigning at the front to make space for the new motor.

I like Cervo 's looks. its resembles i20 from behind. Lots of options spoil the customers. thats better in a way -- introduces competition and also forces better VFM factor for the customer.

Came across this article.

Source :

Quote:
Hours ago, the CEO Marketing at Maruti Suzuki Limited, Mayan Pareek told the folks at CNBC TV18 that Maruti Suzuki will go ahead and launch yet another small car in the extremely crowded small car segment. The car which will be launched will feature the 67 Bhp, 1 liter K-Series engine, which is currently doing duty in the Maruti Suzuki A-Star. The new car, which has been unnamed for obvious reasons will debut in July-August 2010 and will carry a price tag of INR 2.75 to INR 3.25 Lakh.

Now, what hasn’t been specified is whether the price of the car is an ex showroom price or the on road price. We’re anticipating to be the ex-showroom price as this would mean that the new car will sit just above the 796cc Maruti Alto, which incidentally has ex showroom prices ranging from INR 2,28,000 to INR 2,77,000. On the higher end of the price spectrum, the new Maruti car will sit just beneath Maruti Suzuki A-Star, whose own ex-showroom prices begin at INR 3,50,000.

Keeping these factors in mind, we’re expecting the new Maruti Small Car to be in a price range between the Maruti Alto and the A-Star. Now, which car could Maruti possibly place in this narrow but very important price bracket currently dominated by the Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Xing? This is a indeed a very tricky question to answer as the Suzuki Cervo for one could be the right fit at both the price and feature set level.

What gives some more credence to this argument is the fact that the Suzuki Cervo was scooped testing in India for quite a while. The Cervo while upstaging the Alto and the A-Star in terms of interior space could just prove to be the ideal option for families who find both the Alto and the more flashier A-Star too cramped for room. Coming to the second option that could possibly be launched at this price level, in contention, but only just is the slightly refreshed Maruti Alto with the 1 liter K-Series engine. This, however seems to be a long shot as Maruti has traditionally focused on the economy and the family car buyer rather than the enthusiast.

Also, the K-Series engine in the Alto’s engine bay isn’t a straight fit and would necessitate a complete redesign to the front end, naturally leading to higher costs. This simply might not be justified considering the cost to sales ratio that the 1 Liter Alto may have. Taking this factor and the fact that Maruti currently doesn’t have a contemporary, relatively spacious car in the 1 Liter engine segment to rival the Spark and the Santro Xing, the Suzuki Cervo it could be, which sees a launch in July-August. Watch this space.
I doubt the authenticy of this article, but looks like Cervo in quite a good car. IMO, if this car was to be launched as new Wagon R here in India.

The boot space really looks impressive. A few images.

Maruti should have made the A-Star exclusively for the international market and brought the Cervo in it's slot in the line up. Sadly, the A-Star was the obvious choice as it was designed in India. Again, sadly for us the consumers.
