(Sorry!) Me want whitewalls like those!!! Are they commonly available in B'lore?? The tyre size is the same for Heralds, hence I'm interested!

Here is our 118 NE that we had purchased new from The Ram Agency, which were the dealers in Pune at the time. The colour had just been introduced, leaf green, alongwith another very light blue grey.

The car was used only by my grandparents, it travelled a princely 500m a day. Yes, half a kilometer. When we sold the car in 2002 she had done 4000kms, spare wheel never removed, plastic wrappings intact in the interior too. The only time the car did more than 500m a day was when she went for 2 services. The first scratch was put on the car by the new buyer reversing out of our garage.

Karl, what a pristine NE this is. Do you still own any NEs as of now?

@ StanHer: White walls are not available anywhere in Bangalore. Some get it from outside for a premium. Pavan Kadam could be of your help.

Now since you have done all this there is no need for compression check as the check is done before opening the engine. Now you can do is a vacuum guage test, to check on the tuning of the engine. I will post the details later.

By the way, you need these parts when you are back in Bangalore?

Guys happy to see this club. But the 1994 White 118NE left our stable about 5 years back that too a dirt cheap sale.

It was a glory during its time except the expensive maintenence. My dad's expense tracker showed we spend around INR 120K maintaining her apart from fuel and regular service.

But I would accept it was the best car to move around during those days, ours had 1 ton National AC which cooled super fast. Legroom is very good for front and rear passengers. Rear bench can accomodate 3 fat adults easily (During my college days, we 7 friends were ferried to highrange with ease).

Fuel efficiency was 8-10 Kmpl on city and 12-4Kmpl in highways both with 50% AC.

Powerful engine, I still remember cruising on 120Kmph on highways with AC. 0-60 was a breeze, i used to compete with other cars in that age.

Built like a tank. I had a direct collission with a MM Jeep (driven by a drunken driver) and we were saved without a single bruise. Very less damage compared to the Jeep which suffered a huge impact on front.

Very stable. The only car with disk brakes those days ( I think Maruti 1000 and Standard 2000 were the only exceptions).

118 NE is a Classic or a Vintage?

We did this with the Maruti SS80DX now this?

We would be diluting this forum.

This topic should be in Indian Car Section.

Post 1950 is an open ended period, there is no upperlimit. Some here who know the difference should try and maintain the spirit of this section.

We owned one too the Viceroy version. Dont know where it is now.

Nothing bad to have it in the right section. The fan following and the passion does not reduce by marking it in a different forum.

I was sure this was unintentional. Hopefully it goes to the right section now.

I think the last of 118 NEs produced were the Viceroy versions. The body was galvanized for protection against rust. They also had a company fitted electronic fuel pump. Apart from this I don't think there were any other major differences. I am posting some advertisements which were earlier posted on this forum itself.

^^ Thanks Adheesh, your post clears all doubts about the viceroy. Did the car's come with a VICEROY badge instead of the 118 NE? If yes, I havent really seen any Viceroys on streets till date.

Yes it did and quite a prominent one, at the back on the bootlid.

We didnt have the car for too long. It met with an accident and as is the norm in our family got sold off literally the next day. I will need to look for the pictures if any.

Like said above it did come with with better rust protection and some internal embellishments.
