Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

Don't know how true this news is, but the car sure looks interesting.
It is kind of a tall boy, but at the smae time looks good. The 660cc part should not be an issue given the power figures. Only thing hazy is the price positioning by MSIL. The article says it would be between the Alto and A-Star. But with the K10 in the picture, not sure how much of a gap is available there for the Cervo to exist between these cars.

Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

car looks a bit like the Chevy beat if you look at the pic.
dont know whether there is enough of a market to buy a car between Alto and A Star. but with the 660 CC engine should mean that it should be positioned below the Alto or shouldnt it?
But true to Maruti's past form and 'trust' factor in the market it is reasonable to suppose that there will be a waiting list for this and that it will turn out a hot seller like everything else in this segment from Maruti.

Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

This means the price gap between the NANO and ALTO is set to reduce.
I would buy a Nano over the Alto. Tatas are taking all corrective measures to get all faults or niggles out of the Nano. Infact they called for our car last week and replaced/installed some safety electrical looping.

It wont be cheaper than Alto-800 to manufacture . Although its 660 cc its an aluminum engine with 16V and VVT, more modern body and plusher interiors. Should be able to match it on power as well.

Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

I don't think this car will get launched anytime soon. It simply has no space in Maruti's current lineup. Maybe, if they decide to replace an old model then they may be looking at it. Apart from the styling, what difference would this have from the other vehicles in Maruti's lineup? Maruti does not have a 660 cc 3 cylinder engine right now. The one's sold by Suzuki in Japan are all turbocharged engines and they will be too expensive for India. If they want to cut costs, they will need to use the K-Series 3 cylinder which is 998cc. Does it make sense for Maruti to have 4 vehicles (K10, WagonR, Estilo and A-Star) in a similar price band with same engine? Also, I do not understand how they can think of pricing it below the Alto K10. If they are not pricing a 10 year old depreciated model below 2-lacs, how can we expect them to price a new car at 1.5 lacs?

Maruti Likely to Launch Cervo in Oct 2012

Saw this latest video in ET now. Maruti is planning to launch the Cervo as the replacement to M800 by Diwali this year. Likely to come with the 660 CC engine and will be Priced between Rs 2-2.5L. No confirmation from Maruti though on this

Suzuki Cervo @ 2lacs, TOI's new gibberish!!

TOI is at it again, now the confident claim that the Suzuki Cervo is to be launched at 2 lacs no less. Have these nimwits even seen what a Cervo is like in real life?!!

How the hell is Maruti going to price the Cervo at 2 lacs when a 15 year old model i.e. the Alto costs 2.5 lacs for the bare basic version despite the huge volume of scale!!

Do these so called 'journalists' and 'auto experts' pull news out of their cavities when they have nothing to fill airtime with.

And lets not forget the fact this is the nations biggest media house, God help the country!!

In all likelihood, this won't happen. I stopped reading times because of the same reason of wrong/incorrect reporting.

In the TOI land, news does not happen but it is 'made' Seriously I do not ever feel like watching Times Now and though I subscribe to TOI (daily), I am really considering of going for a change!

Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

As per Hormazd Sorabjee (ACI show today) this is the M800 replacement. The name in India may not necessarily be Cervo.

Re: Suzuki Cervo - Yet another small car to India !!

Even if its launched as a M800 replacement, the top-end air-conditioned version would kind of render the basic Alto pointless. And I'm sure it'll match up to the wheezy Alto in the performance stakes as well. And just about everything these days is more roomy on the inside than an Alto.

Ideally they should replace the Cervo with the ageing Alto 800, position it right below the K10 and build a new M800 replacement from scratch instead of selling a modified JDM kei-car,considering the priority of the project. Its a country best-seller after all!
