I booked a Swift Lxi only yesterday, with a tentative delivery date of 28th Feb, for my father in law. Any idea I should hold on to my booking for the new swift or it is fruitless to wait as even the launch is not clearly in sight lets not even get into waiting?

Also, cost is a factor. So any ideas about how it would be priced?
Wait for the new model. Its just around the corner. Also, it will bring much better interiors (the current car's achilles heel). It should not be prices 20-25k away from the current gen at any cost.

Imagine an Indian VXI to look close to this. (Car is jacked up European 4WD variant)

That doesnt look like the top variant ! I dont see fog lamps and the indicator integrated rear view mirror as well - and yes, alloy wheels as well.

But that color is definitely beautiful and so is the wheel cap!

Edit: Just saw sidindica mentioning the variant is close to Vxi. Also I am wondering they provide a 4x4 variant on a lower variant too !

Re: Gen2 Suzuki Swift, EDIT:Caught testing in India, Pics on Pg.15

I remember a thread where it mentioned about VW engines powering MS vehicles. Is that the case here? will swift run on a German engine? Any update on the engine specs especially for the diesel version. Thank you

The swift will get carryover engines and will REPLACE the current model.

the new swift will be launched later in the year. Maruti has three major launches this year. the new swift is the last of the three.

Hey Siddy, any 'inside info' on the petrol and diesel engines. I know you say carryover engines but there was speculation that this one may get the VW engine (diesel). More importantly, do we have any chance of getting the dual VVT 94 bhp 1.2 K series engine. Else, it will share the engine with Ritz. Something that does not help its sporty ambitions.

Looks like Gen2 will look more sportier.. with some simple mods.

1. Smoked Head lamps
2. Blacked out front-lower-air-dam. (Polo style)
3. Dark alloys

Check the photo-modded Gen2 swift below, and the original Gen2 far below.

Till now what I got is the engines will be carryover. Maruti will also heavily localize the car to counter the threat from i10 and i20. But I think it should add VVT to the K12M motor, esp. if the i10 has it. The DDiS will be carried over with some more refinements. Just hope that the build quality is good and we get a ZDI model. Dual VVT will push the cost high.
A little known but interesting fact is that below 20 lakh, there is only one car that is available with a dual VVT tech (variable timing for both intake and exhaust) for petrol (irrespective of the engine being a gasoline direct injection or convectional gasoline motor) and that is the Sonata Transform 2.4 theta 2 petrol. I haven't seen a single petrol sonata transform till now.

Where was it tested? If I had to venture a guess, they probably flew someone over to Europe and drove the European spec car. Engine calibration, tires, wheels, suspension, trim, features, finish....pretty much everything will be different. I find this whole foreign testing pointless.

Not yet seen the Autocar Feb 2011 edition. I guess they might have tested the Indian Swift since they have already drove the European Swift and reported some months earlier(i am not sure whether it was Overdrive or Autocar).

Nope, it is still the EU specific Swift that they have driven. It seems some of the features from this model would be dropped.

I would not be surprised even if they drop most of the EU specs / features. Thats the way usually the manufacturers treat Indian customers. But I guess there is a strong wind of change blowing over Indian market which is a very good sign. Let one or two manufacturer bring some real good VFM cars with killer pricing like Etios, rest will be forced to bring down the premium they charge for no reason and offer us good spec + quality vehicles.

Cmon maruti, drive the change - give us a loaded car with a killer pricing! And for GOD sake, please give us a ZDi too this time.
