Yes, it could be a mid-level variant. It could be the base variant too. Look at those super skinny tyres! Maruti should understand that a car as bulky-looking as the new Swift (or even for that matter, the current Swift), should not be under-tyred.

I'm surprised, because Maruti, of all manufacturers, has made sure that the SX4's wheel-tyre combination does justice to its strong and heavy/bulky lines. Why compromise with the Swift, then?

Completely agree with that one. MSL should atleast disclose the information on the new swift launch, atleast the month. I have been waiting for the swift more than a year now. In 2010, all the automotive blogs reported that the new swift will be launched by the end of 2010 or jan of 2011. And now all are saying maybe may, maybe july....or maybe on September.. It surely is the 'let them wait " attitude... And now i dont see any reason to believe that the new swift will be launched before September.

So i have at last made up my mind to go for the i20.. It has the best interiors, best steering unit for city driving, better design, all the bells and whistles... And i dont think i'l go for street racing kinda stuff, 120kph cruising and all.. 80 bhp is ok ok...

Bye bye swift....

Many people think the same. I will wait for a while too and pick up the i20.

Next gen Swift Dzire is <4 meter length

ACI New issue carries pictures of sub 4m Dzire. Looks the car has lost the whatever little prestige value (of a sedan) it had. Looks like an Indigo CS competitor. May be difficult to position it in the current segment. Ideal candidate for being positioned a bit lower. Otherwise, an ZDi variant may land up in the SX4 Vdi territory. Many Dzire aspirants may look for alternatives.

A preview pic is on their website. Looks like a PS job. Would be clearer, if someone could post better pics from the mag.

After seeing the above picture, it seems Maruti Suzuki has taken an oath to produce more uglier models then their pre-decessors

Hope, the Magazine picture turns out to be a mere PS Job.

I love that color !! But what is it - a 2.5 box car ? Cant make out anything! And what will the boot space be like ?? I think mostly Dzire is bought by family guys who love to carry a lot of luggage. Now with the length shortened, will the car have the same capacity ?

Edit: I guess they could have made the design better by adding a sloping roof and the boot like Octavia / Viva etc. Isn't it called a "notch back" ?? Should be interesting to see the pricing too. And guess its all set for production as the car is not camouflaged.

Hey, The person who Okayed this project is sure a brave fellow. He will be one sick duck after this vehicle is launched.
A sub 4 meter sedan based on the new swift? New swift with lesser boot space than the older one? A new dezire with probably a 50 liter add on to the swift boot?

Maruti, you surely have got brains in your boots this time

Next gen Swift Dzire is <4 meter length

ACI today posted a voyeur pic of New Swift Dzire based on soon to be launched New Swift hatch and what they have revealed is that the upcoming car is less than 4 meter long to qualify as small car and get the benefit of reduced excise and taxes. But what I have noticed is that the car appears much more proportioned than the previous gen car at least from the angle of the car they have posted. So we can make that the upcoming Dzire is even more 'Sasti, Sunder aur Tikau' and ready to set sales chart on fire. For more info visit

I don't think there is room for a sloping roof followed by a small trunk (notch back) As the new swift hatch is 3.85 m long and it just wont be possible to add the sloping roof and still keep it under 4m! But the side profile looks like the car started nicely with longish boomerang head lamps but had to end in a hurry

When the Swift is doing the rounds in a "disguised" manner, how come Dzire is roaming around freely? I see someting fishy here.

@333
Yes, I guess there is no space left for a sloping roof. But, probably lowering the roof towards the C-pillar could have changed the looks a bit. A compromise on rear head room though.
Reducing the front overhangs could have still given it a racier look.

But, for me, this Dezire looks better than the earlier one
