Yup, guess will do that. Considering that the engine (DDiS), do you think it is necessary to wait a while post launch before picking it up? I love the new look with spacious interiors and already made up my mind to go for VDi, is the feedback still necessary?

I am kind of in urgent need of a car but then as I intend to keep it forever (at least 10-12 years), I thought it is better wait for the face lift to happen.

Any idea on the price hike with the new launch? You think it'll be significant considering they are phasing out the current model?

Thanks

As far as the info on this thread goes, there is some minor refinement for the DDiS and there is no considerable change as such. So it should be more or less the same on the engine front. I am not so sure of the pricing - could be around 40-50K more than existing model with the assumptions that the space is better and the interior quality might be better as well [there could be some additional features as well.

Sid will be the right guy to give more info as he usually gets the tips first. Whatever info I gave you here is all extracted from this very thread and no other source as such.

+1 to that. I have been holding my car purchase for this one 'big' launch from Maruti. Would be worth even if it is half as good as we are expecting.

But enough is enough. Maruti is one sick company and despite the fact that parent Suzuki earns a good load of wad from India, they still haven't learnt to respect our feelings. I am sure they will take their own sweet time to launch this car, and when they do, a lot of normal generic features which are standard in the European or Asian markets, would be missing from the car. Hate it or Love it, you have to buy a Maruti for their sheer presence, cost effectiveness and A.S.S. Tata - Are you listening?

Re: Gen2 Suzuki Swift, EDIT:Caught testing in India, Pics on Pg.15

I am beginning to believe the reports from last year (also informed to me by the biggest dealer in Pune), that the new Swift isnt expected before Q2 2011.

One of the reasons that makes the current Swift such a compelling package is the price. (At under 6 lakh rupees OTR in Pune, the ZXi is pretty good VFM).
Question is, how much of a price bump can the market accept in the new Swift ? I hope they dont price it more than 25k over the current Swift, but a 50k price bump is probably what Maruti is thinking. It puts in bang in i20 territory.

Along with that, we didnt have many "exciting" cars when they launched the Swift 5 years back! But the market has changed a lot since with a lot of cars pitched against the swift directly and some below and some above.

So its not going to be an easy game for Maruti anymore. They better play their cards well - the acceptance of Figo clearly states that people do look for options and are happy as well. So they just cant be taken for granted anymore!

!
True after the swift came the SX4 , it had a initial boost, but with the competetion SX4 had undergone minor few changes still the sales didn't hold that good for maruti or from atleast from what they were expecting .

So they tried and launched the SX4 diesel .

After the SX4 came A-star /Ritz , which wasn't kind of pulling the sales as what maruti would expect .

Maruti best selling hatch remained to be Swift for the past few years and with the news of new swift around the corner .They need to launch it at the earliest to keep the pace of the sales. They just cann't go forward assuming that 5 years back when swift was launched it didn't have a good competetior.

Re: Gen2 Suzuki Swift, EDIT:Caught testing in India, Pics on Pg.15

imo they should keep the old swift alive too with a minor price cut. and the new swift should be renamed to something else and priced at current swift levels. 5 years back and even now for that matter there wasn't much competition. But soon there will be. I'd say the mini Xylo, Chevrolet Sonic mini SUV, Ford Fiesta etc are going eat up the hatches.
In our car market, its always been about upward mobility. Folks that were used to a zen a10 years back moved on to a Swift. The newer swift doesn't provide the difference and the upgrade that exists between zen and swift.

If you already have swift now, what upgrade would the new swift really get you- even after five years? form factor, engine, styling all seem very incremental .

I have been asking my cousin who works in a maruthi dealership, when the new swift will be launched.. and he doesnt have any idea on this one. Maruthi isnt giving any hints on this launch. Saw a post in a blog that the new swift will only be launched late dis year, maybe septhember.

I wish that interior design theme ( that quality wont make it to india, i bet ) and steering wheel make it to india. I can live with that 85 bhp segment best engine.

The new Swift should be launched in May! But the question is that will all the goodies like start/stop button make it to India and will there be a Zdi variant this time?

Re: Gen2 Suzuki Swift, EDIT:Caught testing in India, Pics on Pg.15

Folks,
Pretty accurate information - The MSIL plant required a rework at the weld shop for the new swift body parts which reqired 3 weeks. The plant anyways has a 10 day shutdown in June. MSIL has decided to do the weld shop changes along with the June shutdown.
Expect dealer dispatches to start from July mid-end.
Deliveries may start July end / August early.
Cheers!
