I called up Prerana Motors Bangalore and the sales person told me that it will be costing 7L ex.showroom Pune. He said in Bangalore, it would be around 8.8L OTR !! This is around 1.3L more than the 75bhp Punto in Bangalore ! He added that the final pricing is not yet released and so there may be some differences.

There go my two smileys. I think that salesman smoked something right before you guys had that conversation. In case he turned out to be right, it'll be the boss of Fiat India who might have done the same.

On a serious note, I do not see any reason for such pricing. Fiat India has got their pricing spot on for their latest offerings and I don't think this'll be any different.

Saw the new punto in Concored motors cochin. The official launch is on 15th. I didn't feel any improvements in the quality of plastics. Though the color theme for the console looks different to me. Couldn't go for the TD as the fuel in the car was very less and they are half minded as its not officialy launches. The engine is less still noisy according to mine tastes. But it feels revy.

Are you sure about this? It would mean a lot of altered gear ratios!

The Safari 3L does 100 kmph at 1800 rpm, are you sure about these figures for the punto? The 75 bhp punto does 100 kmph at almost 2500 rpm.

I too hope the same. May be he told that to me thinking that I might cancel my booking for 75bhp Punto

I too was surprised by that. It means, a very tall 5th gear, and possibly a taller 4th gear.

1800 rpm @ 100 kph is too low. I am sure you have got it wrong somewhere.

1800rpm@ 100kph in 5th is surely a typo error. The i20 CRDi is at 2100rpm@100kph with it tall gearing, Punto 90hp with the kind of turbo lag and narrow powerband will be a extremely frustrating car to drive in 5th gear with this kind of tall gearing.

The current Punto 75hp manages to post wonderful times under in-gear acceleration just because of the low gearing.

On this week’s popular NDTV Car&Bike show, presenter Siddharth Patankar startled quite a few of us while he said that the Fiat Punto will come with the 1.6 liter Multijet diesel engine shortly. While we have no reason to disbelieve Mr Patankar, his unusual silence on Twitter as soon as folks tweeted to ask him more about the Punto 1.6 makes this breaking story all the more mysterious at this point in time.

This is what happens if the producers of TV shows are a little less sharp than they usually are. Siddharth Patankar’s slip-of-the-tongue-moment of calling the Polo 1.6 the Punto 1.6 resulted in half of the Fiat Enthusiasts’ brigade fervently hoping for the 1.6 liter multijet diesel engine version of the Fiat Grande Punto. Alas, it isn’t to be as the TV presenter finally cleared the air by tweeting that he meant the Polo 1.6 Petrol instead of the Grande Punto 1.6 Diesel.

See the turbo lag at 1800 rpm wouldn't be a problem because Punto starts to pick up once it reaches 1500 rpm but if the speed drops, a gear down will be the only option. In anycase I just wish it does 100 at 2200-2300 rpm because that would be just perfect.

Good that the slip of tongue didn't mention a Palio 1.6, else it would have even enthused a few spirits in their graves
